Would you buy this E30 and if so what would you pay? I want for M52/S50 swap.

What would you pay today for a E30 320iSE sedan in brillant red with nearly no rust and leathers. I've been in talks with the owner and I'm awaiting high res pictures later today but the moment I seen it and fell head over heels in love with it and it looks just right for an M52/S50 swap I've been planning.

For reference here is the car and advert. Its in UK sorry guys and its RHD too :). Its also on E30zone.net if anyone wants to view the same advert and are members too...

    5 speed manual
15" bbs alloys with centre caps in good condition with road legal rubber.
    318is front lip.
SE side skirts and boot lip.
Standard twin pipe exhaust with chrome tips.
    Clear indicater and side repeaters.
Lowered 60mm rear and 40mm front.
    Cream/tan comfort leather seats.
13 button obc in working order.
    Overhead check panel.
    Electric windows/wing mirror/sunroof.
    Central locking.
    All lights/needles/buttons work.
    Front fog lights.
Headlight wipers which I don't think work but can hear the motor.
Leather gearknob gaiter and leather handbrake gaiter.
    M-tech 1 steering wheel.
    M-tech gear knob.
Sony non mp3 cd player, upgraded speakers.
    Electric ariel.
    Set of 4 bottletop alloys.
A spare drivers door in same colour.
Underside of body is rust free as are jacking points, footwells etc, any inspection welcome on that.
    12 months M.O.T.
Will come with 6 months tax.
Private plate comes with the car, (£400 offered from regvalue.com if they sell it).
A fair amount of paperwork with stamped service book and all receipts for major service done in April.

Engine is superb and very well looked after having covered only 5000 miles since 2009, had a major service in april 2011 which included a cambelt change, its 3rd one in just over 173000 miles. Doesn't overheat at all needle will sit just below halfway mark in heavy traffic all day long.

Bodywork is in ok condition considering its 20 years old the paint can look a bit flat if not cleaned reguarly, I bought it nearly pink but have restored it with t-cut/clay/polishing waxing etc but could do with a proper mop tbh.

Theres a few rust patches main one being around the rear tow arear, nothing major at all.
Its had a poor repair on the nearside scuttle, must have been rust which has been sorted but area wasn't sanded down smooth enough before painting.

Other marks and knocks are around the car but nothing major and no big dents at all.

Car has a small oil leak which is probably a seal somewhere, iv not had to top up the oil since it's service, thats how small.

Drivers door has laquer peel which will need re painting, its not the whole door, if you brake the door into 3 parts its the middle where the door handle is. Bit of laquer peel around petrol cap. Been quoted around £150.00 iirc to detail and sort the door out.

Offside rear electric window not working, will look into that.

A very good reliable car here which I no longer want, I bought it in may having sold my 325i saloon. I wanted something newer like a e46/e39 but we bought a 'family car' now for the wife so I'm free to get what I want I suppose, and i don't think i want another e30 just yet but who knows.

    Pricing it at £1050
Car is located in Hayes, Middlesex.

I will take you for a test drive for as long or short as you like but as its under classic car insurance only me and the wife can drive it I'm afraid and I'm not taking any chances.

So question is, what would you be willing to pay for a sedan like this and would you select a 320iSE. Also anyone who owns a 320iSE have any owner reports about the car and what is the brakes situation? Vented rears? Etc. I'm looking at using this car for a powerful engine swap. I have a good feeling about it from pictures but would like more insight to your guys thoughts.

That car would sell quickly over here for 1600 dollars (1050 GBP)

    And, it would sell fast.

    I'd buy it...

(Just an FYI, E30's over here are on inflated prices. We would probably ALL buy that car for that price)

Its a 320iSE, if it were a 320iS I'd have bought it fir that price without this thread! Lol. In UK the business man with all extras E30's were called iSE's!

I'm thinking of an engine swap for more power and considered an S14 but they are so rare to get ahold off! I am considering an M52 or S50 in a standard looking 4 door!

the 320i had discs in the rear if it has ABS, if not, its drums- brakes on the front are vented same as 325i. the trans is a getrag 240- for a motor swap doesn't really matter.

looks like a nice car, you could sell the wipers on the front and get atleast 1/3 of your money back out of that car!

I'd be looking at transferring my ZF over with the Engine.

The brakes are identical to the 325i am I understanding this? I'm looking for a 320/325 as it will pretty much be ready without too much work for a 24v conversion. This 4 door seems solid enough and in clean condition considering its as old as me! I don't often like the 4 door E30's but there is something about this one?

You mention the wipers, are they really that price commanding? I've always wanted a set on an E30 and my last E30 a 1991 316i LUX didn't have them but it had the holes for them! I think wipers are coolest thing ever!!!

Because its come at a weird time I'm considering a deal with my E36 328 against it. I know the owner really likes my car, he seen it at a car show in London a few months ago. So until we draft a deal the car is going nowhere. Its in better condition than my car.

Question is what is the driving and handling like with the saloon and straight 6 E30. All my E30 dailys have had straight 4's and 2 door coupes and the last E30 I had a go in was a race prepared E30 M3 with S14 pushing out 245bhp and it was an awesome car. Reason I ask I'll be using it as a daily for a few months till I pull finances to do swaps. I've kinda got alot of the parts to do an S54 swap barr harness. We'll see.

I'm not buying it to leave it as an E30 2 litre but instead transplant the motor.

Am I right in saying this car will also have the M20 single mass flywheel?

P.S owner should call tonight 9pm GMT

the 4 door and 2 door I6's have no real difference in handling characteristics. We have both. She has the 4 door, I have the two door.

I couldn't tell a difference. It boils down to how well the suspension has been maintained.

But I cannot speak about the 4cyl 2 doors and the 6cyl 2 doors. Haven't had the chance to make that distinction. I can imagine the 4cyl wouldn't push as much. But the 6cyl doesn't push much to begin with.

I loved the handling of my 1.8 chromie it was a blast and when I bought it driving the 2 hours home it was snowing!!! Brilliant.

The 4 door in this condition is rare to find especially as a 6 in the premium trim. I'm going to really think about it!
