    Stupid question, but I searched

I searched, though I was unsure of the name of what I should be searching for.

I am wondering if it is okay to remove the felt ugly gross stuff under the rear seat? Is this fireproofing material or what? Mine is dirty and gross and I thought about taking it out... but then thought that maybe the fuel pump and its wires, etc. need it to cover them.

    Any thoughts?

Do people regularly look under your rear seat?

it's sound deadening. Feel free to take it out. It won't do much for or against you imo.

      Status: HG repair. 488wtq though!

          Just sound deadening, okay.

Slammin.e28.jew guy nobody looks under there, but it is sort of annoying to work with, so I want it out.

Removed ALL the sound deadening in the (interior of the) car. Made like 1.5lbs. So wasn't worth the effort IMO.

I took it out and keep it in the trunk so I can lay it down on my seats when I'm getting down with the ladies. It makes a great vaginal fluid absorber, and you can hardly see stains on it.

Wrong. If you remove all the sound deadening material (back seat and trunk) its about 40lbs. I with I could find my scale picture, but believe me, it fills a whole home depot bucket and is pretty hefty, for what it is.

I was discluding the trunk as "interior".

The trunk material isn't sound deadening. It's weight ballast. Depending on your E30, there is more or less back there. For instance, I don't think verts have it. But 318s have about 75# worth of it. Regular 325s have about 35# worth of ballast back there. It's the same reason why the battery is in the trunk stock.

Well I was worried about the seat maybe disturbing the fuel pump wiring, etc.

all of that is mounted between the tank and the chassis. I can't recall anything that runs in the cabin related to fuel. There are some ABS lines that run under the seats but I highly doubt this will interfere.

You got it backwards. 318is has no ballast in the trunk. My 89 325is had the ballast (trunk tar mat) and it was 50lbs. Verts have a BIG chunk of steel where the rear battery would be.
