Buying a car that needs work?

There is a couple 325's on the norcal craigslist. One say it has only 107K miles and only needs a clutch and registration which expired back in july.

I do not know how much the registration will cost. But what do you guys suggest about buying car that need work.?

    here is the car.

    and another

I havent gotten repsonses from either yet, as I just emailed them.
    What are your guy's opinions?

Plans I would have for the car is
    Lower
    Wheels
    Cosmetic things
    Make reliable.
    e to i head converson.

Is the e to i conversion possible if it isnt a 325es? I havent done much research on it, all I know is you have to have the longblock motor.

    Thanks!

all 20 year old cars need work. be prepared to put time and effort and money into e30s if you want to make them right.

for my own opinion, i would prefer to buy a brand new car than a used one..because you will only have to pay for the maintenance after a couple of years or so...

All cars need maintenance, regardless of age....

Cars that need obvious work. i.e. clutch, window, etc.

definately not going to buy a new car. out of the question, by miles.

There is definately a difference buying either of the cars I posted versus an e30 that has just had $3000 put in mainenance in the past 5k miles.

I guess I just failed at making myself clear in this thread.

          fail for myself

just buy a shell and build it your self, then stupid quick-fix bull shit that the previous owner did is not an issue, im in over my head because previous owner ran stop leak and tap water as coolant.

I would, but I at least need a running car. Have someone comming to look at my current DD Chevy Geo Tracker, and this weekend my parents are probabaly selling the only other extra car for me to drive. So I need a running car. haha

I am happy those cars are getting sold though, regadless if I do not have something to drive atm

well in that case the first car is your best bet, cheaper than the second, just register, order a clutch and install it, or pay someone to install it for you, or order a pizza and have a r3v member help you install it.

You say that now Spencer, but certain r3vers might not want to help because of OP's dumbass friend/friend's Dad.

My dad is a mechanic, he will help me, or show me how to replace it. I will be learning everything from him. Along with other members ;)

Haha, Danny, lets not even mention Dan.
He is soo stupid. Everyday he tells me how sad he is that he doesnt have a car. He need to stfu, he shouldnt've been going 60 in a 40 anyways. And lets not get to his first car.

Danny, I hope you know I am nothing like Dan, in all seriousness, I know how to learn to do things myself, which he never will. I do not "show off" like he does either.
