Smaller and lighter v8 than the M60/M62/S62 series engines; would be great for an e30, and a first or one of the first.
Post is a few months old, but no updates on if it's sold yet. Just a heads up, and this hasn't really been discussed much before.

Everything that the motor is missing is worth more than some e30's on this site.
I knew I would get this response. Just throwin it out there, and there actually are some people on this forum with lots of money. No harm in discussing it; if you don't like new threads and discussion go to e30tech.
Would you care to give some reasoning?
They are both aluminum blocks, but the S65 is physically smaller; the m6x/s62 is able to be bored out more. There is also the well known statement by BMW that it weighs 33lbs less than the S54. I don't know for a fact that it is lighter than the m6x, but I would bet it is based on this.

not necessarily true there are already two non-factory kits out there from Racing Dynamics and Dinan at 4.6L and 4.4L making over 530hp and 490 hp. The factory GTS car makes about 480 if i recall correctly. Can even a bored out S62 make those kind of numbers at 4.9L much less a M60/62?
Honestly I think an s65 would be the ideal engine for an e30 if money were no object.
Nice picture showing the internal parts! Look at that mess, I would hate to work on that lol.
Starter under the manifold plenum....kind of cool, but would make the job of replacing it that much harder... At least it does not have the mess of the adjustable intake manifold crap...

Man reread what you quoted and what you said. I didin't say anything about power output. I'm not sure what you are even responding to. Yes, even those aftermarket S65 kits result in less displacement than the stock S62, agreeing with my point that the S65 is a smaller block and can't be bored and stoked as much.
