DIY: Salvage Yard steering wheel removal w/o proper tools

I found a wheel i wanted at the PNP today (as well as a bunch of stuff i pulled off a 91 325IS) anyway, the key was in this car and I didn't have the right tools to actually pull this damn thing.

so i went and bought a 22mm socket from a mexican for 4 bucks.
then realized i didnt have a socket wrench with a big enough grabber to use the damn thing

so i took the adjustable crescent, bit into the socket... drilled a larger hole into the end of it, hammered in a 6inch extension, which i then connected into the 4inch extension THEN into the socket wrench for more leverage....

and went to town, successfully pulling the wheel off

    cool story eh bro?

better yet.... if you forgot your 22mm at home; see if the factory spark plug tool is in the trunk. Pound that f'er on with a hammer, turn with a screw driver (through the holes), BAM, mtech1/2

Cool but i think the tools you probably damaged are worth more than that ugly wheel that i too had in my car till yesterday. Disregard my post if the tools are safe :pimp:

^^easy. Unbolt, drill out lock cylinder, turn with screwdriver.

                I miss the old BMW

and would have been more impressive if the wheel was cooler.

To do it without the key. I did this.

Take hammer or brick, hit the opposite side. Barrel lock flys out the other end. Viola! Steering wheel lock is out.

Note you have to hit hard! I have done this in several junk yards and hold it true.

You bring a drill to the junkyard, but no 1/2 drive tools?

In the end, we all lose because that steering wheel is back into a running e30.
