Had to replace the valve cover gasket, do the rear brakes, and replace a rear thrust bearing on my wife's E46 last night.
Working on that car really makes me appreciate the simplicity of my 21 year old car. Just to change the valve cover gasket on that thing I had to remove the coils, remove the in cabin air filter assembly, unplug a wiring loom...
Then when doing the Thrust bearing (without the expensive proper tools mind you), the bearing center breaks out, leaving the outer section still in the spindle. Tried an air chisel, BFH, torch, nothing is budging.
I thought my E30 was a pain with its frequent problems, but I would take it any day over having to work on this E46.
