Best place to find engine/car for swap?

I'm looking to put an m52b28 (alloy block) in my car, but I'm having trouble finding a source.

Should I just buy a whole 528 or 328i? Where can I find crashed cars that are available for public uptake?

    craigslist search:
    BMW
    $100-$1000
category: cars for sale by owner.

when i search this, smashed all sorts of bmw's are what pop up, or ones that are clean but have running issues.

                huh, ok, I'll try that.

I've been searching for pretty specific cars, so maybe that's why.

i found an m52b28 from a 2000 528i (113k miles) with intake and flywheel for 1200, but it seems expensive, no? Reading through the threads, it seems that most members find theirs for under 1000.

btw, reminder...I'm looking specifically for the m52b28

i would just buy this whole car if it was in my budget.....

of course its not engine requested.

ahhh i see. just browse your local yards weekly, ones bound to pop up, and you better hope your the first to get to it, it'll run you about 500 bucks or so, thats where most people find there cheap ones.

Are you sure you want to run the aluminum block m52 from a 3 or 5 series? As far as I remember, the only aluminum single vanos block that you would actually want to put into your car will come from a 2.8 litre z3 produced in 1997 or 1998. Anyone can chime in to add onto this, or correct me completely.

                            Haha.

But I think I will look in the junkyards this weekend to see what I can find.

About the engine itself...I keep hearing different things. Some people say that the m52b28TU was alloy, while others say it wasn't.

                            what gives?

I wanted the alloy, just because it'd be lighter than the m50.
