How to track down a Previous Owner.

So I sold my e36 to some kind of insurance investigator. Before he bought it he was able to get names, address and phone numbers etc. to all the previous owners. Of course because I'm good for nothing I lost his number. Does anyone know anyone like this or how to find out this info short of Hiring a PI.

I know it varies state by state...is that any help? I would call the DMV, see if they have any ideas.

The dmv does divulge that information. You gotta pay though and it takes some days. At least it did when I last searched a car

A carfax will get you the names. From there you can google their address and possibly home phone number. If not then the number will be listed in the whitepages if they didin't specifically request to get it removed and be unlisted.

Do you have the owners manual? Sometimes the first owner's name is written by the dealer in the owners' manual. I had a guy that owned my 968 track me down from that info.

You sure carfax has names (before I waste money)?

Sorry I was wrong about that. I just checked my carfax and it only says city and state it was registered in. For some reason I thought it did.

I've been wanting to do this for awhile.

My car was purchased as a track car and wasn't registered for the road until 94. Changed hands three times in a year per the guy I picked it up from.

Would love to get all the details from the 1st owner.

I got mine by having my son go around the side of the counter at the DMV and peeking at the screen...

Call Magnum. I'm sure he, TC and Rick can get to the bottom of this.
