With the principle engine mass moved closer to the firewall due to 2 less cylinders, the steering feels more accurate and turn-in feels sharper. It's fun to play with the damper settings: the engine, steering and gearbox really liven up in Sport mode. The engine-stop at stoplights is a bit disconcerting, but there's a defeat button just below the ignition button. The 528i is rated at 34 MPG highway, and if you just roll around at soft throttle you can see average MPG of 45+ MPG. I can't wait for the F30 3 series to arrive. I'd LOVE to have one of these in my 325is, but it'd hellish to solve all the fuelling, ignition, and ECU issues.
I dont remember the exact specs but it looks like double the HP i get in the m20b27 (528e).. probably just going to replace to an "i" head and mustang injectors for now. That and the e28 is like 1000lb lighter than the current 5 series so have to see how that would factor in as well... and I would guess the 4cyl weighs less than the m20.. but as i said not to sure on every thing, Just entertaining the thought.
Ive been reading alot of negative comments about how basically everyone is getting their panties in a bunch because its a 4cylinder... they got this bigger is better attitude which I don't agree with...or also about the sound of a 4cylinder.. give me performance. If this 4cylinder performs better I am all for it. Also apparently there are some issues with 4cylinder turbocharged, but as I said I am not too knowledgeable on that.Last edited by RondoAcapriccio; 11-19-2011, 08:58 PM.
