Swapping my e28 left me with a bad taste. Also had someone who really wanted that car and dropped me cash in hand after asking if he could drive it. I'd rather start with the correct pedal box, etc than rip all that out. One less thing to worry about.

As far as being beat on, I'm pretty much going to be doing a complete refresh of anything suspension wise after getting the car, unless everything checks out good when I have it on a lift. I generally get my cars for <$800 so they're always pretty beat anyways.

I've got one of each. The close-ratio dogleg is great on the track, but not much fun on the street.

I have thought about swapping the difs. between my cars. Making my 5 speed pull like you said, and having my auto the really laid back highway cruiser. Am I right in my thinking?

I know it will. The guy I bought my 5sp from kept real good care of it. It just went thru a full tune-up. T-belt and all that was changed right before I got it a few weeks ago. I have a set of IE shorty headers, it has a chip in it already, and I have a set of injectors ready for it. Just need to figure out what I am going to do for the exhaust. A set of the TRM wheels from Tire Rack in a 15x8 set-up with some pretty good tires. And that shoould be it.

5 speed swap = totally worth the effort.

A day's worth of wrenching will make your car infinitely more fun to drive.

                            I miss the old BMW

                              You dirty boy...

I'm glad I waited to buy a 5 speed versus settling for an auto...I haven't driven an automatic car in a looooonnnggg time...and I don't give two shits.

Mine resided in Calif. as an automatic for many years. The 2nd owner (in Indiana) put in a 5-speed and a LSD when the slushbox crapped out. He also swapped in basketweaves for the orig. bottlecaps. My wife loves the 325 & borrows it occasionally. She is not a car person either.

BTW: the dark window tint is gone now
