^ yea, probably my biggest reason for not picking up a new 'stang. There are a lot of them out there. I like that you don't see too many decent e30s or e36s out there and it's nice to be different.

I might be a little negative but I think all techs tend to get that way considering that all we see day in and day out are cars in need of repair. If they didnt break I'd be out of a job though!

I'm kind of a f-body fan boy... And i say the new Camaro is ugly also, i call them the new Lumina! I do like the Challenger and the front end of the new Mustang, but they kind of failed on the design in the rear like most car companys do. But if we all liked the same thing then this would be a very boring world!

Your right. American cars are some of the most reliable cars out there and as far as mustangs go they out handle everything. They also hold there value so well it is incredible.

Eh, something to think about. To each their own. Most people buy a new car so they dont have to work on it (all others are 100k). They are 28/plug at the dealer and you need a special 12 pt socket to remove them. Slide hammer is required for injector removal as well.

rx8 also doesnt use 6 plugs

The only 1 series worth buying is a 1M. The 135 is too soft for a good driver's car, and the wheelbase hinders its abilities. 335 compared to 135 id take the e92 anyday; if I was driving the car hard. Even though they share most everything the same, the longer wheelbase makes a huge difference in making the car feel more neutral.

That said, the n54 is the only engine choice that makes sense at this point and even that isn't saying much. The amount of n54 related fuel complaints has dropped significantly in the shop but with these things reaching between 30-50k miles they will start to come back. Because the direct injection system doesn't spray fuel into the intake port it can't clean the intake valves or ports. This in turn creates tons of carbon build-up due to the crank re-circulation. The results=rough running, poor idling, loss of boost, check engine lights, engine in reduced power mode, you name it. You'll be at the dealer every 3 years for your "carbon cleaning." Spark plug replacement is every 45k, injectors have come down around the tune of 350 bucks or so each.. Just stuff to keep in mind, I know these things inside and out.

I was actually looking at getting a new v6 mustang with the performance package (5.0 running gear, 3.73lsd, 6 speed). They were extremely competitive in Grand-Am this year as well. The 2015 model is said to have IRS. Straight axle has saved them only 100 bucks per unit in production costs but the switch is being thrown. I don't have experience on the ford, never drove one, and don't know how reliable they will be though!! I will still vote mustang.

Alright, I didn't closely read the whole thread but just scanned. If this was posted before, my bad.

I would stay far far away from the new 5.0 until they fix their transmission problems. They used a different 6-speed manual for the new engine (MT-82, NOT the Tremec T56 which is the gold standard). It's a Chinese-built unit and they have been having really poor quality control issues.

I have read many threads about new owners having major issues within the first year of ownership, sometimes within only months. Ford has not issued a recall and owners are pretty much just being told to "deal with it".

Now, if you're buying an auto trans you're fine... but something tells me you aren't. Please do some reading up on the Mustang forums before you make a decision. They are a great total package, you can't deny the performance for the price but like I said, I'd wait until they fix their trans issues.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has launched a preliminary investigation to examine reported shifting problems in 2011 and 2012 Ford Mustangs powered by the 5.0L V8 and backed by the new 6-speed manual transmission – a problem that could result in a recall of the new Mustang should a defect be discovered by the Federal agency.

Faulty Chinese-built transmissions plague new Ford Mustang

The 2011 Ford Mustang debuted last year to glowing reviews, strong sales and swaddled in American pride. But over the past several months, hundreds of owners have complained of broken Chinese-built manual transmissions — a problem Ford has yet to rectify.

Here's the 514 page thread on one of the Mustang forums :(

Don't get a Camaro unless driving with blinders is your thing.

Personally I would never buy either of these cars, ever.

    However,

If I was held at gunpoint, I would take the mustang, powerful and fun. Neither one is very pretty but personally I think the new 1-series are ugly as hell.

    Here's my opinion:
The mustang is a better car, and with that said I'd take the bimmer. It looks nicer (and I don't even like the 1 series), I can guarantee that the quality will be better, and honestly...it's a BMW. I've never been in the new mustang, but they're fucking ugly, and other Ford's interior/quality is garbage. I've just never really liked an American car, but I've been in neither, so don't count my opinion on the driving aspect.

See when I see a 135i I always think a badge whore douchebag paid premium for an e46 based german entry level car for cold sore having girl friends.

don't shoot me here, but for a new daily i'd get a WRX. comparably priced, practical, quick...and i like how they drive.

maybe it's not grown-up enough for some, but that's not my game.
