Does turning on your heater really make the car faster?

    okay, i'm not sure if it was in colorado that i saw these signs. It was a long time ago, when i was 12, high on lsd, driving cross country in a stolen camry. but i definitely saw the signs.:drink:

        Quite technically, it does make your car faster over a short time. When yo turn the heat on, air runs over the heater core, which is basically a small radiator. Then the coolant that is now a couple degrees cooler goes back into the engine black and cools the cylinder walls a small percentage more than if you didnt have the heat on. Thus gaining you a cooler engine environment, which is more efficient at producing power. But after all this you may gain 1-2 hp in the 5 mins the heater is on. Pointless...

              going on a limb here but...

              turning the heater on will keep the engine cooler and in turn will make the viscous fan not lock up quite as much.
