I think that's asian aftermarket. I have "alpina" ones on my white M3 that are the same way. The updated style roundels are actually laminated stickers on top of the plastic base. I had one on my hood that did the same thing to me and iirc I got it from a reputable place (not ebay). I too have noticed the quality to take a dive on these things as well.Comment

The dealer ones should have black backs now and are dimensional. You can actually feel all the lines and letters... They have changed several times. The ones with a coating like that pictured above are garbage. They discolor in 12-24 months'88 M3.2 S54 Lachssilber/Black
