I had to do the same thing before we made our last move. My wife ended up feeling bad and giving them to my parents to store. It was hard to do, but I got over it quick enough.

I hate throwing stuff like that away. My first car(ish) was a Nissan 300zx. Took me 4 years to come to grips with the fact that I wasn't going to fix the smashed front end (put it into an 8" steel post). Finally sold it for $200 to a junk man.
