54K 1991 750i for a daily?

I'm looking for a new daily driver. There's a Texas-all-its-life 750i with 54K up on eBay. Let's say I can get it for $8K, that's about the same money as a newer Hyundai econobox with the same miles. Other than the alloy block corrosion issues, how is the maintenance on a 20-year-old V12 BMW with low miles? Assume that the guy has good maintenance records, just for talking purposes. I've always wanted to own a turbo and a V12. Just got rid of a turbo (210HP :( ) VW that I had for 6 months, and I'm thinking that this might be my best cheapest shot at driving around a V12 for a year. I also have a weakness for ridiculous money pit cars. I only drive maybe 8K miles a year, so don't care about gas mileage. Plus I'm old, so that opens up many car possibilities that you 19-year-old guys wouldn't touch. What do you think? BTW I'd keep my S52 E30 ragtop, so no worries there. Would dump my E30 sedan to make room.

being on an E30 forum, and a VW owner... I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you cannot afford to own that car.

Considering you can get an E38 750 for less than 8k, I'm thinking no. The 750 in question is basically 2 E30's maintenance-wise quite literally(it basically has 2 M20's worth of parts). You can find halfway decent E32 750il's for less than a grand in California.

For 8k, get yourself a nice E39 540i/6 and call it a day. Comfortable, powerful, just sporty enough, no nikasil, ok gas mileage, and moderate upkeep.

I have to say I love 750's but that one just doesn't do it for me, maybe I only like them in black... Anyhow I personally think owning a V12 would be a great experience, I wouldn't personally buy that car to do it. These guys know more about bimmers then I do too and seems that there is quite a sway.

The luxury of that is not all the great. I think a newer A8 or like the guys are saying above, a 750iL.

I had a 1991 e32 735i 5speed (rare) but hated every single day I owned it....they are too big and you'll end up replacing the center bearing or drive shaft before 100k plus finding parts for it is like finding gold.

I even had the original sales receipt for $76k back in 1991 and still I couldn't wait to sell it for $1200....do yourself a favor and stay away....speaking from experience
