    E36 to E30 Interchangeability?

So I know the steering rack from an E36 can be switched into an E30, but what else?

Or at least what can be swapped and is useful?

Interior wise I've seen the leather E-Brake handle and boot (cover?) switched in and that is something I really want. I could use a new center console as well, but I've never seen the inside of an E36 is it interchangeable?

Also about the steering rack, what all would you take from an E36 for the swap?

    Thanks.

Ok was linked to a very disorganized thread, so I'm going to organize everything I find there and in this thread and then we can shoot down what isn't swappable.

    E36 to E30 Swappable Parts:
    Tail Lights
    Grills
    Steering Rack
    Window Switches
Front Struts and Brakes (5-lug only?)
    Front Seats
    Radiator
    Complete Exhaust
    Window Motors (Early only possibly?)
    Sunroof Motor (Early only possibly?)
    Fuel Pump
    Tie Rods (With E36 rack)
Control Arms (96+ for 5-lug swap)
    Shock Mounts
    Complete AC system
    Instrument Needles
    Alternator
    Center Console
    E-Brake Knob
    Shift Knob
    Shift Lever
    M3 Seats
    Temp Sensor (Soldered)
    ///M Oil Cap
    Sunroof Switch
    Wiper Relay
    Tachometer / Econometer Motors
    Muffler Bearings

    Possibilities List:
    Spark Plug Wires
    Injectors
    Motor
    Tranny
    Mirror Lenses
    ECU
    Wiring Harness

That is everything I've summed up so far, will add as new info comes in.

I'm pretty sure nothing from an e36 is useful for an e30. Especially the engines.

Just buy an e36, they are loads better than an e30.

The passenger front fender bolts up fine, the drivers side one requires serious modification.

engines definitely don't fit at all so don't even attempt it

rear tail lights bolt straight on fairly easily

grills clip on with a tiny bit of work but you can make it happen

M3 wheels bolt up to a regular E30 just fine, but the regular E36's don't fit at all so it's not worth your time.

Other than the bumpers, headlights and subframe(s), nothing else will swap over.

Although I hear 190e Cosworth door panels and wheel trim is a bolt on. Basically, if you're going to be crossing items over, the Cosworth is a much better transfer than the e36. It's shares a chassis and driveline with the e30.

                    Good luck!

Oh, the muffler bearings and headlights fluid are the same P/N between both.

Nairb are you saying the bumpers, headlights and subframes WILL swap?

lolcantturn & 5toes, by grill you are talking about the kidneys right?

As for engines, it was definitely stated a few different times in the other thread that engines will fit, I have no desire to swap an E36 engine in but I'd like to make an accurate list.

lolcantturn, when you say M3 wheels will bolt you talking about wheels or steering wheel? Someone said the E36 M3 steering wheel would bolt up.

I took info from the thread Nsquared97 put up and consolidated it in the original post, I'd like to make it as accurate as possible and the possibilities category all cleared up.

Thanks for all the input guys.

bewbs definitely fit in all bimmers for the record, my E30 sure carries a lot.

Yeah the M3 wheels will bolt right up, they look really nice and 17's are a nice modern touch to an E30. Make sure you're lowered a little or else it will look very stupid.

Don't forget door handles, they give the e30 a more rounded look.
