Spec E30 Crash @ Road Atlanta

After I watched this again I think the smoking car ahead of him dropped coolant on the track and that caused him to spin. Seems like he could've tried harder to steer out of this though.

A Spec3 (BMW E36) lost coolant in front of me. It looked like he was going to stay left so I resolved to stay right. I backed off the gas a little to reduce the…

Agreed. Almost seems like he just let it happen. But you can't really say unless you where him.

Doesn't look like he let it happen to me. Control on antifreeze is close to nil. I bet he got screwed by ABS in one of the rare circumstances where it isn't beneficial.

It looked like he barely turned the wheel, I highly doubt he didn't try though.

Near the end it looked as though he cranked it left, but I couldn't tell if he actually was turning or simply putting his hand back down. Either way, you're screwed on coolant.

I am confident that is not an 85MPH hit.. but... still no bueno.

Ouch. I wonder if he didn't try to counter steer that maybe he could of just let the car 360 instead. But at that speed, who knows +coolant +grass.

Hard hit for sure. I think his >160g calculation might be a little off.

The record for peak experimental horizontal g-force tolerance is held by acceleration pioneer John Stapp, in a series of rocket sled deceleration experiments culminating in a late 1954 test in which he was stopped in a little over a second from a land speed of Mach 0.9. He survived a peak "eyeballs-out" force of 46.2 times the force of gravity, and more than 25 g for 1.1 sec, proving that the human body is capable of this. Stapp lived another 45 years to age 89, but suffered lifelong damage to his vision from this last test.

Eyeballs-out is what we have here, but probably not >160g. Stapp's first words to the responders was reportedly: "It's the white cane for me, boys."

                              Glad he wasn't seriously injured.
