He couldn't really avoid it. If he had steered into the grass he would have lost control just as easily. Nowhere to go.

Quoted from the license plate filler:

"Most of my money I spent on cars and women. The rest I squandered"

      Glad the driver is OK
Drive it hard. Maintain it well.

Steer out of it? Apparently you've never been instantly sideways at 80 MPH..

Lots of never been on a racetrack statements in this thread. Armchair F1 coaches. Good luck getting a car to stay on line when coolant is sprayed. Coolant + slick grass equals crash: I'm glad he had a good cage.

yeah, I'd like to know how you could "try harder" when sliding at 80+mph on coolant.

The thread said it didn't appear he was running coolant as it didn't leave a trace afterwards. Likely just water.

Yea, no one there is running coollant, just water.

That being said, water on hot r compunds laterally loaded isn't fun either.

I've been on enough fast tracks--including Road Atlanta--to know better than try and analyze another driver's situation from a video. Thankfully, I have never been in a situation like this, but I'm aware of how slippery spilled coolant is. Rather, I was inferring that it was apparent to me early on that the car ahead was throwing coolant and that he could possibly have attempted to steer clear of it. That's all.

And I don't think he was doing 80 mph.

The car in front of him was losing coolant for 7 seconds befor he lost control.

Watching the video repeatedly it does look like he was counter-steering to me. What I don`t get is why after unsuccessful counter-steering he didn`t pull the handbrake or what not.

I have no exp. with racing slicks and such but I do have lots of experience with going sideways at ridiculous speeds and such situation when front wheels don`t have any grip either for successful straightening out I would pull the handbrake in order to spin out.

In a spin, two feet in. Pulling can turn a simple crash into a rollover--if the car hits the wrong angle it can traction roll on the grass.

you also don't want the engine to stall, in case you are still on-track and there's other cars behind you, you can quickly get out of the way if you still have engine power.

I've never hit anything though, thank god. And things happen fast. He's OK and that's what matters.

But what about my computor games? In those I can drift my Lamborghini at about 200 no problem, and they are totaly realistic. Right???
