    After two eta's (3er&5er r3v'd)...

...i picked up a '91 318i. I am definately pleasently suprised by the power band and the reponsiveness of the engine. Looking forward to see what I can make out of it!

I've had the worst of luck man...when i lived in Spain, rabbits would jump out in front and get trampled...here in FL, all I get old ladies jumping out at me in 3000 pound vehicles.

Hehe, being surprised by M42 power shows how weak etas are.

Let's drive fast and have fun.

Hey don't bash Etas--some of us still drive them!!

They have lots of low-end torque for riding around town,
are very quiet, and with a JC chip have 147 hp, more
than the stock 318i with 134 hp

            I think what he meant was,coming from a six-cylinder,
            for a four-banger, the 318i M42..is surprisingly lively...

Wow eta's are awsome, they get a 26 HP MAX gain from just a JC chip.

We should all be driving eta's.

Your numbers are fudge, stop speading false info.

chipped eta's are dope daily drivers, don't get me wrong, but power drops off too soon as rev's increase. This little thing pulls soo nicley in 3rd...me like!

I finally found a chip for my Super Eta...big difference, especially as far as daily driveability goes. Supposedly 17 hp gain. Redline's at 5500RPM. That makes a Super eta 144hp. Pulls much harder in 2nd & 3rd, and my mileage improved. Averaging 31-33mpg these days. That's not OBC numbers. I divide gallons and miles at every fill-up.

Still, the M42s I've driven are really fun. It's like a detuned M3! That lighter front end turns in better than my M20.

Greta is up over the 200K mark and shows no signs of quitting, but when she goes I'll look for a 91 318is or M3. M3s are like being married- you got to COMMIT. They require more hands-on love, but do they ever put out! :D

                    i drove 3 or 4 325is before driving a 318is

i bought the 318...people bash the M42, but it's a nice engine. reliable, strong and damn fun in the high rpms. reminds me of VWs 16v powerplants of the late 80s. i haven't autocrossed it yet [still in build mode] but i'm really looking forward to throwing this little beotch around.

and besides, if it's raw horsepower i seek...i'll hop in my R32 ;)
