    Mixing coolant

Okay heres my problem. I drained my coolant and though I recovered what I could from the drain... I lost alot from coolant lines i pulled off during my intake manifold removal.

I put pantyhose over my funnel and put back in the coolant I had recovered... but it was no where near enough. I added about 3/4 a gallon of distilled water and it still needs more.

So right now I am guessing my coolant ratio is like 30% BMW BLUE COOLANT to 70% water. When I flushed it a few months ago it came out to like 1 gallon coolant 1.5 gallons or so of water. So actually my ratio is even less then 30/70.

The nearest BMW dealer is like 45 minutes away, so can I mix in generic coolant with the BMW Blue I already have in there? I am going paranoid my car is going to get frozen coolant and that is BAD.

Yeah, just find something that is compatable at an autoparts store. I've been buying coolant like its going out of style.

......wtf saving coolant? Really dude it's not that big of a deal. Just to get some Prestone and distiller water and you are set. No need to over complicate things. I'd never put coolant back in the car once I drained it out.

I put the coolant back in because I had just put it in in August... no reason to get rid of it if it is only 3 months old

dude just get some coolant at a store. There isn't some sort of crazy science-secret BMW has and nobody else has that makes their coolant be optimal for an engine they designed 38 years ago

I know... but I was wondering if I could just add straight coolant to what I already have in there.

As in BMW blue + prestone? I dont really want to drain my coolant again

Then dont, find something that is compatable with it. Go look at the back of some coolant bottles, some say just GM americanski stuffs, or euro, or whatever. Ive had to buy a shitload of coolant lately, my car is pissing it. I've been stocking up on the Autozone universal shit. Supposedly anything older than such and such, otherwise newer GM i think it says on the back.

O'Reillys stocks the Pentosin brand which comes in the coveted blue you're looking for. It's either NF, or ++ or something like that I can't remember which. It's about $12 a liter.

Rather than spending like 20 on a grey bottle with a BMW logo. lol

Get some Zerex G05. Should be able to find it at a local parts store, (gold jug) and it's phosphate free like the OEM stuff.

                              +1

It's what I'm running right now, if you search bimmerforums and stuff it's always the next most recommended after BMW Blue.
