This went from bad to worse. At the end, there was a fudiciary responsibilty to the donors. I'm really shocked this was kept a secret for years. Mods, Josh, Yan....seriously, I am just blown away from people I thought would have known better.

Josh is a stand up and damn nice guy. Ya we don't agree on a lot of things but he's a good family man. Back when this happened I knew 3 other people that got hacked that year. paypal has since upper their security. So people giving him shit need to realize a lot has changed in 4 years.
I know josh will make it right and I hope he will be returned to an admin. He is a good guy and I'll vouch for him any day.

YAN is the one (still) that deserves the money and should be paid, not the we the donators. That was (is) the whole point of this thread.

Josh, perhaps a new thread chronicling the fulfillment of the debt would be a good thing.

To all the others bashing Josh, i'm sure you guys have never fucked up before, right? Your time will come.

Next time, we use kickstarter or some other more secure fund.

Well, now that I'm home from work, and I've had time to read this thread, I feel a few things need to be said.

Firstly, in the court of public opinion, I've been found guilty. There is very little if anything that could be said to sway the opinions of those who have made up their minds. If I had a better explanation or more details on what took place, I would provide them. As I don't, I'm left with what I know.

Second, I'm well aware of the security that PP has built-in, and how much it has increased. There were a lot of things I did wrong. If the perpetrator had access to my PP account, they likely had access to my email, as well. I immediately changed my Google password following the incident, and have changed it regularly since. If the person responsible had been following this thread and saw the amount that had been accumulated so far, not to mention knew of me and knew my activity, they would likely have been able to breach more than just my PP account. My Google password wasn't very secure, either... My suspicion is that as things were changed in my PP account, emails were intercepted and deleted before I had the chance to view them, then the email changed so any further notifications didn't even get to me. It might sound crazy, but it's the only thing I can think of.

Furthermore, people have asked why the person didn't go after my lines of credit and or other assets. I don't have any. I have crap credit to begin with, so I don't have credit cards with large balances on them, nor have I ever had much money in the bank. So there wasn't really anything for them to go after. Whoever did it knew how much I had in PayPal, and waited for the right time to start removing it.

Beyond that, I have little else to say on the matter. I can't change the minds of those that have condemned me, and I understand that. I also for the record, have not and will not take anything said in this thread personally, nor will I try to debate or argue with anyone. This is a hole I dug myself. I am pathologically incapable of asking for help when I make a mistake, and this time, it's bitten me worse than ever. Instead of coming out with it, I tried to bury it in my own head, and look where it's gotten me.

I will be doing everything in my power to try and fix this situation and make it right. As a gesture of good faith to Yan and the community, I am sending Yan the measly sum of $25 to start with, just what I have in my account. From here on, whether it means getting a list of everyone who donated and refunding them one by one until it's all back in their hands, or my plans of doing Teespring/Kickstarter/Gofundme/sticker sales to raise money for Yan, I will make sure this is someday rectified. I can't apologize large enough to the members of this community for such a transgression, and can only hope to try and rebuild my reputation. All I can say is, I'm sorry. Good god, I'm sorry.

    - Josh

    That might be a problem:
I shortly after closed the account completely
I'm just having a hard time believing that one could be so unaware of changes being made to a paypal account. This makes no sense to me at all:
Over a couple of months, several amounts were transferred out of the account to different accounts, with people's names I'd never heard of. I wasn't aware it was even going on because the email account that I received the notifications at had been changed, even the account password had been changed, and I hadn't been checking the account regularly, I had no reason to.
I want to believe that Josh would never steal but this needs a better explanation.

I agree..Ive done many shady things as a youngin. But nothing dishonest or shady in 33 years when my life changed. I like Josh... but I think he has some issues with honesty. But just as many did for me, I think he deserves a 3rd chance. People can change and be better for it. Its my belief there was some deceit here but if he steps up and makes it right and learns a life lesson this could be good for him and all that surround him

josh could prove it by posting the paypal logs - they go back until the start of your account (I think mine was in 2001?).

I don't think there's any reason to not believe him regardless - do you guys really think paypal is unhackable? There's a reason I don't keep any cash in there, I don't even like having it linked to my bank account. Paypal is a lucrative target for hackers.

we should be pissed at josh for not saying something sooner. but we should also be pissed that some POS knew that Josh had $3k sitting in that account and stole it. unless Josh is totally lying, that somebody is still out there, and possibly reading this thread right now.

For the record I am working with Josh and coming up with a plan to rectify this situation. The ball is in his court to make things right and I have faith that he will.

Name calling, insults, and other things will not be tolerated.. they are not going to help the matter and everybody deserves a chance to right a wrong.

I have demoted Josh as an Admin/Mod, and he is no longer a representative of R3V whatsoever. My goal is to give everyone the piece of mind that the leadership here does not take issues like this lightly, and will do whatever is required to ensure resolution is made.

Like I said before, feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.

    ...

I think the appropriate thing to do would be for James as owner to request an accounting of the PayPal account in question. Given the total lack of transparency thus far, total transparency would be ideal.

I feel truly gutted for Yan. Got screwed twice.

This. It's fucking bullshit. I don't know what the fuck has happened, but this place has just turned into a giant shit hole.
