just contract a flat bed. most guys would do it for $50. they sell it to scrap metal and get $150 for it. they dragged a non rolling shell off my driveway and that's it. -
word. i made a thread about this a while back. i ended up looking in the classifieds and sure enough there was a free car hauling service. they ended up charging me because the car was missing the motor and supposedly it wasnt worth the gas money. the $30 was well worth it.Originally posted by bmws50b30just contract a flat bed. most guys would do it for $50. they sell it to scrap metal and get $150 for it. they dragged a non rolling shell off my driveway and that's it.

I cut up my 72 2002 in pieces & dumped it outside a scrap yard in downtown L.A. in 1984.

I also started a thread about this.
In the meantime I have learned that it all depends on who you call.
One BMW friendly wrecker hauled away my friend's gutted shell for
free but then required that he also give the engine with it that he
had pulled and was considering selling seperately. (They still got
the diff, the rear spoiler, the uncracked dash...all because I ran out
of time removing this stuff before the came and it had to be gotten
rid of quickly because my friends' neighbours were starting to complain).
Another guy is selling his gutted shell to the local picknpull (www.picknpull.com)
for $50 and I don't know if he has to tow it there or if they pick up.
Good luck and keep us posted on what you find out. I have a parts car
that I am ready to rip apart but this issue is nagging at me -- I should firm
somethng up before I start rather than after. Also, isnt' the gas tank dangerous..
what do you do with that?'86 325 original owner for 20 years * SOLD *

Ok guys, here's the voice of experience.
Scrap metal prices are pretty high right now, NOT as high as some news stories would have you believe ("China is buying all the steel and scrap they can, blah, blah, blah.........."), but around here (NC), the scrap place has been paying ~$4.00 per 100 lbs for scrap cars. You do have to remove the gas tank + tires before they will take it, but that's not too hard to do.
So, a stripped E30 shell with no engine or tranny will weigh approx 1000-1200 lbs which equals $40-50 that the scrap place will pay someone for the metal. They don't care if it's got an engine, interior, or anything else....they just pay for the weight.
So, if you are still having trouble finding someone to haul it off, call the local scrap place and see if they can recommend someone, or put you in touch with one of their regular customers who is willing to haul off a single car. There seem to be alot of guys around here who do just that, they scrounge and ask around body shops and anywhere that has scrap metal that they might be able to haul off.
If you're really energetic and the car still rolls, you could rent/borrow a truck + trailer or tow dolly and haul it yourself- but that's probably not worth the effort. If you do this, make sure to remove the gas tank ahead of time, and bring a lug wrench with you so you can remove the wheels when they take the car.. ALSO- if the car has aluminum bumpers, it might be worth the time to take them off and strip the steel clips + rubber trim off of them, that type of aluminum is worth ~$0.40 per lb- 10x more than the car. Same thing for the wheels- once you get the tires removed, they are worth ~$0.50-0.60 per lb........

I took a sawzall with a 10 inch long Metal blade to the chassis, chop it into 2ftx2ft sections and sold all of it as scrap. No more euro e30 :(
Edit: I also dropped a corner on my leg, causing a 3inch deep by 4inch long gap. going to the hospital in about 20 minutes to get stichtes... doesnt hurt to bad, not even really bleeding, but man does it look really nasty. I about puked when I looked at it all cleaned up.Comment
