I'm looking for something that will help clean my motor internally. So far the best suggestion I have is to add a half quart or so of ATF and run it for a while. Any other thoughts?
What's the general concensus on oil additives?

ATF is definitely a good suggestion. Another option is running Seafoam in your oil as well. -
seafoam works great when you do the gas tank application, vacuum induction, and directly in the crank case. Just make sure after 100 or so miles you change your oil or else you might get some catastrophic failures. Chances are 1/1000000000 but it's still there. I've heard it'll break up clumps of nasty oil and clog one of the passages and BOOM! But I highly recommend seafoam.Originally posted by Wh33lhopThis is r3v. I'll also back up on the ATF. That stuff is made with magic. Any power equipment like air jacks, air hammer, etc we had at the shop that stopped working, we dunked them in a bath of ATF. Next day that shit was sparkly clean and ran so smooth and like new.Originally posted by Wh33lhopThis is r3v. Check your vaginal sand at the door.Comment

All good suggestions and atf is a classic solution, just be sure to change out any of these additives quickly, the atf you can let slide longer but things like seafoam I wouldn't leave in for long at all, the directions advise the proper time.Different strokes for different folks.Comment

I have never heard of using ATF before, I'll have to try that before my next oil change. On my last oil change I ran a quart of Lucas oil stabilizer. It worked great in my Cherokee so I figured worth a shot.91 318is M50 swapped

Lucas oil stabilizer is not for cleaning the internals, it is an oil thickener.
