I never said the cleanest, It's a clean engine bay, I wasn't refering to shaving and deleting, etc. I think that takes away from an engine bay IMO

For me, this LOOKS like a real car - clean yet functional. The VW in the OP looks like a toy and a case of trying too hard. Real cars FTW.

I feel the same way about muscle cars - I like the under-bonnet to look like a real motor. Wire tuck sure, but not the impractical deletion/relocation of everything else.

This is the cleanest. I dare someone to beat this: (with an e30 bay)

but even this one could be less cluttered with a radiator with built in reservoir.

It's a pain. The VW guys do it and don't have power brakes, or steering, no AC or heat, etc. It's silly.

Here are my two bays which I think are about as "clean" as you are going to get while still practical. Of course I might be biased.

I'm shaving most of my bay during the swap, I figure I need to offset the ugliness of the 5.0 haha. Deleting abs, a/c, deleting washer fluid and bottle obviously, tucking wires as best I can and filling in all the holes in the firewall. I'm about 3/4th's done. Just need to patch the holes in the bay and paint.

The other thing that really adds to the clutter imo is the intake set-up. Even with a cone filter, the whole icv and throttle body elbow boot is very messy looking.

The new shell has no ABS, it is an '84 ETA

I mean with the fusebox being an eyesore, the insulation, and random holes in the bay, can we have decent clean examples of bays? I mean I have a 24V with an M42 rad, but I still think my bay looks pretty noisy even with the wires tucked behind the motor
post a pic of your engine bay and I will tell you what you need to do.

I honestly don't see it being that hard...well, relative to what's been done on a lot of the shaved VW bays.

I've thought about the wiring before. Rather than running the harness out of the firewall from the DME, you could run it below the dash, behind the HVAC panel and mount the fuse box below the driver's kick panel. There IS room and a lazy day, if that, of soldering and you would have a harness long to go from the fuse box to whatever on the engine/starter/alternator/etc.

It actually sounds like a pretty "fun" project

What would be a good place for that coil?

I think the ABS modulator is one of the uglier items in the bay...could it be hidden without making new brake lines?
