Decided to add up the total I had spent as of last month...
Car itself--- $4,000 (midwest market can be rough when trying to find rust free e3os)
All parts/modifications---$~4,800 as of Feb. 2nd 2012. I have since spent close to $2,000 on all new suspension and some misc stuff.
Total= Around $10,000 and still not quite "done"

The way I see it, compared to the average car payment maintaining an e30 is not so bad.

Definitely. And that doesnt include the fact that financing cars forces you to have an insurance thats on average 120 a month more than you would normally.

So call that 500 a month easy. And thats nothing thats a toyota yaris.

'maintaining' almost any car, from a stable start is never going to be 500 a month. I dont think... too often. I think though you have to look at any chapter called maintenance in a car manual, and do all that stuff yourself. If you have a mechanic addiction you might sink. I think up to and including brakes you must do yourself.

I mean even a yugo. But maintaining doesnt mean like buying ground control springs.

Sorry but your argument is wasted and lifeless here. Car "maintenance" and any upgrades thereafter are part of the obsession that brings us to these forums period. I paid 4 grand for a 21 year old car bcuz I can. Not bcuz someone thinks it isn't worth it. I could care less about Kelly or his blue book. Why?? Because certain experiences are priceless. I LOVE tooling on this old shit. It makes my hectic 60 hr work week go by even faster knowing I'll have something I can do at home to take my mind off the monotony of the days past. Did I feel silly spending 4k absolutely not, bcuz I knew the previous owner was just as obsessive as I am about maintaining it. And that to me was worth it. I paid for his blood n sweat along with shared passion. Call it silly but that's me.

ha ha whos arguing with someone?

Arguing on the internet is a lot like the special olympics.
Nobody wins but whoever participated is probably a retard.

Hehe but I have a better quote.

The difference between stupid and eccentric is a lot of money.

Nobody who has a lot of money is crazy lol. Yall can paint ghost flames on your 87 ford taurus if thats how you roll!!!!

people trick out chevy impalas. Theres several magazines devoted to it. The kbb of a chevy impala isnt even printed because kbb doesnt want to waste ink. Impala is the chevy malibu with speed upgrades mostly. If im wrong dont correct me i dont care.

Its like the ultimate, it starts out as a peice of crap 5000 pound old school engine with drum brakes and by the time you spend 50 k its a rainbow painted super and turbocharged pimp mobile, impossible to buy in the store.

                  ;o) its eccentric!

So how often does the book say we should be changing our oil?

i looked into that when i got my rx8 5 years ago because mazda has a service interval of 5,000 miles for "heavy usage" and 7,500 miles for "light usage." it is impossible to maintain their light usage criteria. and i use mobil 1 synthetic.

and i still change the oil in <3000 miles. Lately it's been every 7 or 800 miles because 4 months are up. i want maxxximum lube. with my e30s im not as meticulous, but i get it changed between 3 and 4000 miles with castrol gtx.

On my s10 my manual said every 7500 miles (if mainly highway) so thats what I did (used Castrol Syntec). On the BMW however I go every 3k +/-. Older car, why not make sure everything is working smoothly?

                                But I love it anyway.
