Paying $300 for z3 rack swap, Charleston, SC

I don't have the time and knowledge to embark on this journey on my own!
I will purchase the rack, and i would like an experienced e30 mechanic to come help me out so i can enjoy driving again.
I don't have tools, but there is a by-the-hour garage on the naval base here that i'll also cover expenses for.
I will be starting school again in a month, so i would like this job done by Feb 6 - because then i will have no time whatsoever, and it will become a job for a shop, and a too-expensive e30 replacement.

If anything else can be arranged with this deal to make it happen, let me know.

Wish I was closer, wouldn't mind making $300 in an hour or so.

That's how much a shop is asking for an e30 replacement, but if it's gettin swapped i'd rather get it right. It's airbag btw

There's got to be someone who can get this done! I think the price is good.
What ever else can be done or you need to know, let me know.

Its gotta be! Too bad he jumped ship for a jetta. He had this car nice and low.

Get with your local euro group and offer payment by pizza for a hand in doing it. I have done this swap but the engine was out. Cutting the firewall would have been more challenging if the engine was still in there. So im assuming that you have the rack, inner and outer tierods, and spacers already, right? I had to use a M50 steering line too.

No shame in paying someone else to do it. You really cant screw this job up so you are really paying for wrench time. Unless you know someone that has toe plates, an alignment will be in order...unless thats included in the $300.

Yah, more on subject, the swap isn't all that hard. I have done one on my car, and really the only HARD part for me was getting the damn steering knuckle off. Other than that it was pretty straight forward. Like the guy above me said, just find some other BMW friendlies and have a wrench night! I highly recommend you buy new tie rods and locking plates though. It's a good time for the 'while you're in there' stuff

Yes I did buy it from him! It was beautiful low, but unfortunately is was too low for this area and without protection - that rack suffered for it, same with the tires. North Charleston just has terrible roads.

I've been shopping for some re manufactured rack, going to pick up those spacers from dungeonmotorsport. I wasn't planning on putting new tie rods but if that and the locking plates are so recommended i'll go for it. I've been been holding off in case i had to go for the e30 replacement.

Another shop just called me back offering $400 to do the job.

                        $400 seems high.
