Safety Flash---Inspect your jacks and stands

If you haven't done so for a while, go out and give your jacks and jack stands a good inspection. Check that all the fasteners are tight, snap rings are present and tight, all cotter pins are in good shape, and welds are solid.

I was just putting stuff up after doing some work on the e30 and notice a loose allen head bolt on the cement...which came from my hydraulic jack. It was from one of the spreader bars underneath...and it sure made me pucker up a little bit. I went and checked the rest of the bolts, and a few of them were a little loose.

So, take a little time for safety soon and check your shit.

Nah... just use jack stands with no moving parts.

I've used 4x4" boards to support the front of a subframe to install a swaybar before....

We were all out of pole-jacks.

Well said. I'm on my third Craftsman aluminum jack because circlips kept on popping off when I would lift my car (gg craftsman).

I had my jack fall a few times, so now I just carry a floor jack in my car instead of the factory one. It's quicker and safer - the extra truck space it takes up is worth it to me.

Good warning. The aluminum jacks need the tightening of the bolts every now and then. Time to put some loctite on them too.
