tokico shocks and springs

saw a deal on these.. $299 for all, but im wondering if i should hold out for and H&R/ bilstein combo which is around $550ish. what is the quality of tokico? havent heard much from anyone with e30's. any help appreciated

Which Tokico line? They have several different shock/strut catagories.

Either way, I would never put Tokico stuff on my car.

I've been running the Tokico Illumina shocks with H&R Sport Springs (not the OEM Sports) and I've had zero problems with them. The Illumina is adjustable with 5 different settings. I run my car with them set at #5...the firmest. The ride is not too harsh or punishing (at least for me it isn't). Large expansion joints in the freeway can be felt rather well, but otherwise they are fine.

i may get them, they are well thought after in the mustang track racing world (yes i mean course not drag strip.)

i can get them stupid cheap $689.00 (cdn) for struts and springs and they are the fully adjustable verison...i just need to fork down the money.

if you get them i need a couple reviews.

i can get the illuminas w/tokico sprgs for 514, whereas i can get the HP blues w/tockico springs for 299. limited lifetime warranty. but if i were inclined to go for the illuminas, i would rather j wait for some h&r's opinions?

I've heard a few horror stoires of Illuminas blowing pretty damn quickly. Do it once, do it right. Get some Koni's (like I just did! :D).

I've heard those rumors.....but I have yet to experience it for myself. This suspension set up on my car was transfered from my previous E30 (which I totaled in Feb. '03) and my brother was the previous owner of that car....he was the initial purchaser of said suspension set up. There must be at least 60K miles on this stuff....including about a dozen driving schools (my brother) and countless days of hard/aggressive driving on twisty mountain roads or those favorite freeway transition ramps (my brother and myself).

The Illumina shocks utilize a different design and construction lay-up compared to the cheaper versions such as the Tokico Blues....the Illuminas are simply a much better shock. The Blues are junk. A friend of mine had them and they were toast in no time. About my only gripe with the Illuminas are changing the adjustments for the rear shocks....its just a PITA. I turned mine all the way up to the firmest setting and just left them there.

I had the blues on my car when I bought it. The PO had just installed em but they blew out about a year later. I've heard a lot of other stories about Tokicos blowing out, but I later realized that it was mostly blues (and not the Illuminas).

Get the H&R cup kit. Great drop with a smooth ride. However, you will feel the hard bumps in your spine. Gives it that "sporty" feel. 8)

I heard the cup kit gives a little too much drop, resulting in camber problems and greatly accerlated tire wear. What gives?
