Why are slicktops so sought after?

Not just the 20lbs, but where it is. Up high, making a nice pendulum. You want weight down low, it drops the CG down lower and helps handling a bunch. Also being sunroofless gives more headroom.sigpic

Biggest thing is the increase in structural strength.
I don't give a fack though. I love cruising with my windows down, sunroof back, pumping The Scorpions in true 1980s German fashion.

I like the sunroof in my 4 door, it adds more to the experience (love the hand crank, too)
ventilation is improved when you have the back end popped a little. I use it more than I would a marginally better power to weight ratio/lower cgComment

I love it when you see car adds that boast some miniscule technical advancement in some new model that improves performance by some infinitesimal amount
as if the driving skill of Joe Blow can exploit thisComment

I do like sunroofs and one wouldn't deter me from buying an e30, but I love the clean top of an e30 with no sunroof. Next to the hood probably my favourite surface on the car. The black shut line of an always-ever-so-slightly-misaligned panel in the middle of the roof totally ruins it for me.
This thread makes me want to wash my car and take a shiny pic of the roof. brbComment

i'd prefer sunrood, but i see all the cons of owning one, especially water leaks.
i would honestly kill someone for a moon roof, one came up on CL around here for $400 and i nearly tracked down and killed the guy selling it, but it had been sold.Comment
