Asian College Kids With Expensive New Cars

why not? why can't those kids receive those cars if there parents are in a position to WANT to give these things to them; call it being corrupt or materialistic or what have you.I never contested the assertion that succeeding in college requites a great deal of work. I do, however, take issue with the idea that one could somehow be deserving of a brand new car just because you're doing well in school. Different types of work give you different rewards. I really shouldn't have had to elaborate on that.
paging cliche central, but some parents want to provide their children with what they never had.
precisely. you can't call out asians on this as i have seen an equal amount of white, black, asian, and mexicans in similar situations.Originally posted by Cliche GuevaraWait... Are you taking issue with me pointing out that they're Asian? Like, do you think this is a race thing?
it all depends where you're from; where i currently live is a majority of rather affluent people where people like to flex their money which is fine.
it is their money and they can do whatever the fuck they do with it, they earned it.Comment

Jesus, can't you just stick to arguing against what I've said rather than inventing vague assertions to make your argument easier? You're on my case about (still unspecified) logical fallacies while your posts are straw man central. Yes, their parents can shower them with endless gifts, if they can afford it they have every right to do so. What I take exception to is when you do that it becomes the norm, you expect to be handed nice things just for doing well in school. I know this may sound crazy, but I think that maybe, just maybe, it's bad parenting to spoil your child.why not? why can't those kids receive those cars if there parents are in a position to WANT to give these things to them; call it being corrupt or materialistic or what have you.

But this isn't even the point of the damn thread! I was just trying to figure out if this was a local phenomena or if it was common in all college towns.
Oh for fucks sake, don't be so sensitive. Simply noticing that, in a town with a very small Asian population, almost every single college age kid that comes into my work with a nice car is Asian and can barely speak English is nothing to get offended over.precisely. you can't call out asians on this as i have seen an equal amount of white, black, asian, and mexicans in similar situations.

...by the time I was 18, I had probably made $75k or so. I busted my ass as a kid. As a kid, I didn't know what to do with it, so most of it went towards food, and stuff I have nothing to show for it. Had I saved it, I could have bought a pretty sweet ride. I look Asian, so that's what counts.Last edited by Hey_You; 02-08-2012, 11:54 PM.Comment

I used to ball with this chinese kid, we started talking about cars and he told me he had a brand new GT-R. Naturally i said your a fag, how did you acquire such vehicle. He told me that its the norm for chinese families to provide all the major expenses for there children (he was obviously well-off may not hold true throughout social classes). He said his parents would pay for college, his first car and his first home, and he would be expected to do the same for his children.

Super true. At uic its always Asian or Arabic. Seems like its a ton of Audi's though.
Also true my boss from couple years ago had an Audi TT, A condo downtown and schooling paid for by her parents. I'm on the opposite end of spectrum. My dad owes me money, which I don't even ask about and I've bought the last 3 cars for my mom. However I fell I'm a much stronger person than those who have it the other way around. He told me that its the norm for chinese families to provide all the major expenses for there children (he was obviously well-off may not hold true throughout social classes). Almost daily, I see these cars on North Atherton.. two Maserati Granturismos, a Porsche Carrera GT, Audi R8 Spyder, Mercedes SLS, and an Aston Martin Rapide.

To make you guys feel better.....(maybe in a way) The only reason most of these kids drive these sickening nice cars when they can barely speak the language is because back home, these cars are almost impossible for purchase. ie) a Gallardo here would cost us somewhere in the range of $200,000 to $280,000 USD(whatever), a Gallardo in HK would cost roughly $8 mil HKD (conversion rate of 7.5 perse) do the math.....that comes to roughly 1 mil USD/ CAD whatever.... A Merc ML is roughly 1,000,000 HKD (that's like 140,000 USD) , where we can get here for just under 70,000 CAD. So when they come over, it's a like a toys R' us for car lovers with 50% off tags!!! i am Asian myself and i bought my cars with every dollar i made and trust me thats the feeling they can't get. There's nothing to be jealous about....Comment
