I have to be honest with you, a $200 motor is a problem waiting to happen, or has already happened, you just don't know it yet. I wouldn't install that motor without a full rebuild. Heck, I wouldn't put that motor in a 24 Hrs of Lemons car without a full rebuild. Sure, its a good core, for all intensive purposes, thats it.

Dude your shitting on these guys parade.

Don't you know this is how most r3vers operate?
              - buy cheapest JY engine
              - change oil pan
              - spray paint
              - throw in e30
              - do shitty wiring
              - brag about $1000 24v swap
              - make no start/running wrong thread.

Not always, my M52 was only $300 and it only had 110k on it. It has been running perfect for 3 years now.

How are you doing a full rebuild on an engine and staying within the budget for lemons?

Wouldn't a rebuilding a $200 s52 be cheaper than buying a running s52 that although running may have issues of its own and may need a minor rebuild?

I'm not. But if I were to field a car, I'd go through the motor top to bottom and make sure its happy and healthy. The car will get penalty laps for the first several races anyway so who cares. They don't open the engine up, and I'm not going to field a car with a filthy motor anyway, so I'll take the penalty laps early since they will be dished out anyway and when they stop assigning penalty laps the car will be fully sorted out and assuming the drivers are at least decent, should do very well.

I used to drive and be crew chief on a lemons car, when the owner listened to me, we had a fast, front running car. Then last year at the full 24 hr race in Fernley Nevada, while we were running a solid 4th place, he freaked out (it was about 2am) and drove the car off into the sagebrush. After that he brought the car in and tried to call it a race. I banished him to the trailer and set about getting another driver in the car. The owner was so dead set on using power tools that someone cross threaded a wheel stud, and when I tried to remove it by hand, the stud broke. An hour and a half later the car was back out on track. We finished 17th. Following that the car has failed to run well since the owner refuses to fix it the right way (as in properly torquing nuts and bolts). The 2nd to last race of the season, I said the motor was done. He blew me off and said I didn't know what I was talking about. 3 months later, 1 hour into the race, guess what... It grenaded. All I could do was say "I told you so". It wasn't even a matter of not having another motor, we had 2 extras that could have been easily swapped out.

Moral of the story, if you are going to do a motor swap, do yourself a favor and go through the thing before you spend the time and effort to do it. You will have more fun driving the car than fixing it later on.

Thanks for the headsup tho. i couldnt sleep thinking I was gonna get that s52 for 200$ (and duh, i woulda done full rebuild)
