I don't think being a "hipster" has anything to do with anything.

People like things and get into things because they're popular. I don't know when society decided that liking something because a large amount of other people do makes you some kind of douchebag, but I fucking hate it. When I was a kid, the other kids called it "trending" someone if you did, wore, or bought something they had. It used to drive me fucking insane, and it still does.

I got tattoos because I saw them on other people and thought they were badass. I started longboarding and snowboarding because I saw other people doing it and it looked like a killer time. And I listen to most of the music I listen to because I heard other people listening to it, and I thought it sounded amazing.

If that makes me a hipster, then everyone on this forum is a hipster, and if they think I'm wrong, they're deluding themselves.

I can't find any cheap E30s any more on CL. I used to find at least one for $500 every few weeks to every month, now, the same crappy E30s are being listed for >$2k. one $500 E30 popped up a week or so back, it was auto, didn't run, it was gone the same day it was listed. No more E28s either, except one black auto 535i w/ 300k that the guy wants $2k for.... sigh...

I may be out on a limb but i feel like soon e30's will be "too old" for the youngsters to get into.I believe there will be enough people around my age and older who will keep e30 prices average to high for the rest of our lives. Ya know that old guy with the mint 2002 who has owned it for 20-30 years? that will be us with our e30's assuming life allows us to always keep an e30 around.

I wouldn't necessarily correlate forum membership or traffic with cult following either because it's likely to also just be a result of increased popularity of car forums in general and the existing members posting more. R3V could be getting larger and more active for any number of reasons.. there's a lot of people that regularly post on here that don't even have e30s.

One point about price. How often dose some one post up they have wrecked there car. Each one takes the total down and increases the price of the ones left even if there iffy.

About the people who post here who don't own one. Often talk bad about the car, or (my just be me) are disruptive.

More people need to wreck their e30s so mine goes up in value even more.

Is there any car out there that is similar to the e30 like it was several years ago. In that its cheap, not a huge following, old, rwd, 5spd, and looks good?

I find it strange that the S14 240sx never gets built up as a good handling track car since it has a better suspension setup than an E30.

To me, the people who don't buy an E30 out of a genuine love for them are the people graduating from VW's and 240sx's. The stance crap isn't helping this.

It's fine if someone wants to modify a car their own way, but I just hope it doesn't end up getting really bad to where there is a permanent bad reputation like modified Hondas have

I would LOVE an Integra or Prelude with some sticky tires and suspension, what a great handling, quick, and reliable car that would be. I just cant deal with driving something that looks like what all the high school kids, drug dealers, and boy-racers drive.
i had a prelude that was modified properly and with the stock exterior. spent about 6gs on suspension and turbo tuning. i loved it. i got tired of the fact that it was a honda and FWD and tried selling it but everyone who wants that car is 16 and has 500 in the bank if that. luckily a drunk driver hit while it was parked haha. now i dont think ill ever own a car that isnt comparable to a bmw engineering design.

If you look it is hard to find any decent used car for under 1500 right now. You cant even find a shitty Neon for under 2000 around here. It could be the economy, there is high demand for cheap transportation right now. Used car sales are up. Add that to the fact that backyard, shade tree mechanics cant afford the cars from the 60's and 70's their dad's and uncles modded, and the honda scene has gone from fun to ridiculous and stupid that last 10 years and you have a recipe for rising e30 costs. Just my .02.

I moved over from the JDM scene.

When I was younger I thought all the well balanced, cheap RWD's were 80's/early 90's jap machines; then I realized E30's were actually pretty damn affordable. Now I've owned 5 of them and currently have three.

e30s got really popular in my area once my M3 started to roll down the streets 3 years ago on a daily basis ... srsly before that there where maybe 3 e30s on a 60km/37 miles diameter (my area ;)) and all were driven by 40+ y.o, and all you saw were e36's, now there are ALOT of e30's around ..... both for better and worse

so my vote goes for increase in last 5 years !

Another words, if the e30 didnt exist? For me it would be an older bmw...e28, e24,2002. Ive been fancying the 240 and 260z for a while. Simple and that straight six!
