So my wife wants an e30....

She has a 2010 v50 wagon but always feels cramped in it and told me she would love a 4-door e30. Now she ferries around our 2 year old often in her Volvo, but I do the same in my e30...Space wise (especially with a roof rack) we have no problem with the e30.

So I have been scouring the car for sale forum, and thinking about it....Safety wise, with the kid in the middle, there's no way its as good as the Volvo. But I dont think e30's are unsafe, I've read lots to the contrary. If we did this, I would of course spend the cash upfront on maintenance (as I have with my previous 3 e30's)...

I'm on the fence...so what do you guys think? She does drive a manual and has loved my e30's, I'm leaning towards getting one for her and selling the Volvo....

The volvo is safer, I would roll with that.

It does seem like the Volvo would have more space than an E30. I'd consider a 5-speed E34 525i touring, seems like that would make a good family car.

Of course the 2010 V50 is going to be safer than any 20 year old BMW but it's not like they're Pintos. If your wife wants an E30 you should go for it.

spend $$$ on awesome Recaro baby seat.

I voted e30, but an e34 might suit her well. She'll have to check one out ;)

No - the v50 is bigger, but it follows the trend of newer cars, smaller windows...she 'feels' cramped and gets very claustrophobic on longer (1+ hour) drives.... If you havent been in one, they do feel small inside, my e30 'feels' much more open.

The sedans are certainly safer than the coupes. The rear does have impact beams. The rear seat of a coupe has NO such protection.

Yeap - Im not kidding, I know I cant be the only one here who drives an e30 out of choice :). She picked the Volvo out - I like to have one newer car (for the family). I've had 2 e36 m3's, and 330i ZHP - she likes the e30 the most, it has the best style/soul.
