It essentially is an M5 but with the V8 versus the s38 6cyl.
I can see plenty of advantages ...most come down to parts cost and rebuild costs ..not to mention the torque offered by the v8.

Either way this example in the link is pretty clean looking.

Gotcha. I won't hesitate to admit I know pretty much nothing about E34's. IMO that is still a lot of money for the car, but it does look extremely clean.

lol, no man... it is worth only what someone is willing to pay for it, not 1 penny more. Rare does not =$$$$ in every automotive case.

but yes, it is a very nice car.

True. Rare and desirable are two different things. This car is actually both.
Not saying it will command the asking price but this you gotta consider this car is at a dealer so its price may be a bit inflated.
Does not take away from the rarity or the cleanliness and unique color of this car.

For the uninformed here is the limited edition 200-run US 540-sport:

However the car in this thread very well may be the even more limited edition and therefore even more rare and desirable Canada market only ///M-540i of which there were only ever 32 made.
They has even bigger brakes and a few more key pieces and were numbered.
Looking at the pics this car has a dash plaque so there's a good chance of it being one-of-32.
