this engine, as alluded above, also came in the mustang svo, ford thunderbird turbo coupe, and turbo cougar. it is a variant of the 2.3 engine used in the pinto, and 4 cylinder ranger pickups for many, many years. contrary to the posts above, drivetrain parts for this car are indeed very very cheap and common. i have never owned an xr4ti, but i have had plenty of thunderbird turbo's from my early more formative years. 2 '83's, 1 '84, 2 '85's, 2 '87's and an '88.

there is nothing about this car that has anything to do with bmw except by association ford put the bmw m21 diesel engine is some lincoln mark 7's. thats it.

i guess they are kind of cool looking. i personally feel like i grew out of these and graduated to e30's. somehow to me they are a step down in a lot of ways. my later turbo coupes( 87 and 88 ) had an active sport suspension, but even so, they still felt like the typical american heavy, riding on top of a marshmallow sort of thing. stupid solid rear axle. i like e30's because the feel light but solid and handle like you can throw them around on rails

another cheap ford with some really cool attributes would be the lincoln mark 8. the airbag suspensions go to shit after about 100k miles, they only come in automatics, but they come with a really awesome 300hp twin cam 32v 4.6 liter v8 and an independent rear suspension similar to a bmw e34. my 90 year old grandma had one when she was in her 70's

The day Spency gets his slow ass M20B27 e30 running is the day I will be the administrator of this site.

I think mekurs looked extremely shabby. Especially the scorpio. It looks just like an escort of the same years. Sort of why they went out of business.

They were kind of, well euro, sort of econo handling cars. Like e30s I guess. But most like saabs really

Well this reminds me, there is a 98 saab 900 that needs a clutch for 1000$ in my area I want to check out.

I like the mekurs steering wheel and driver centric dash.

My roommate in college had one. The back window shattered while scraping ice off from it, though that may not be a common occurrance. It seemed decent from power and handling standpoints for what it is. The interior seems cheap though, and the exterior styling really isn't my cup of tea.

Apparently they are pretty good rally cars.

                Check this one out.

                  Ok not to get personal

but you have 2 bmws, an e21 and an e30, already... for 0$ and youd like to ADD a mekur for 950$?

Why? When you look at that mekur what do you see? Its old and ugly and your e30 blows it away in all categories.

                  Is it that aero hatchback?

Just the other day I was wishing my convertible was a cheap silver euro hatch with cloth seats and no junkyard parts that handled slower but had that neat euro hatch.

And if bmw hassles entertain you just wait til you mess with fords.

If you didnt have a car, and 950 for a running car is a fine deal, I mean ideally you want a accord but a mekur has some sport to it....

Its not bad hey. You might find an e30 or e34 in that range too. rx7 maybe.

I did a thread on these about month and half ago.

Lima engine very stout, steal parts from T bird for the intercooler and ditch the 4x108 bolt pattern which sucks.

Source a EU Sierra or Sapphire brake and hub assemblies. Fun cars but the T88 can be fragile and is expensive.

If offer 500 and run it in a Lemons race. We raced against one at ORP last season. It set a faster lap than the 535is there (the 535 ended up winning, so their drivers were t slouches).

                              Why?

I never liked the "Xrati's", but the Scorpio's had bad ass brakes (like one of the best from 60 mph), reclinable back seats, and like 145ish mph top speed, from memory.
