    shopping for a 260

    Whats the best way to determine the condition of a manual tranny?
    Ive heard checking for play in the input shaft is key
    anything else?

    buy one new.

    or wish for the best and hope he seller isn't lying about the mileage on it. There is no real way to check it out without pulling it apart.

        Going to be tough without it being in the car and you being able to drive it and run it though the gears. See if anyone will offer a guarantee that its good and working, cant say it wont blow up after the first 10 miles...anything could happen, but just the fact you wont have a transmission DOA right after the install.

          I have a few for sale, all came out shifting good.

          Relying on the seller is the only way without surgery, as mentioned.

            speaks the truth, you want reassurance it is good? than the Stealership will help you out no problem other than that call a recyclers that can give you a warranty of some sort

                all of them have some shaft play, im sure there is a spec somewhere to tell if its out but having the right spec in the shafts in/output doesnt mean that the internals are bound up or 2nd gear hasnt been beat to shit from a rev happy driver
