My one and ONLY Rant on Police

    Just got pulled over.
Jordan- you know where this is... bottom of hill on Bow Center after Bow Bog.

9:30PM 2 lane, 2 direction traffic. Passing Zone.
I am behind some blue hairs doing 30. Speed limit 35.
Pull out to pass, accelerate up next to car, and i see lights coming over the hill.
2 choices, slam on brakes and swerve back into the lane, or finish my pass and slow down in a more controled manner.

I choose option 2. Pass, cop pulls me over right away.
I have my license and registration in hand.
Very polite and answer all question courteously and promptly "Yes Officer, no Officer"

2nd Cop car pulls up....

Officer comes back and gives me a ticket for speeding.
    Says
"I could also give you a ticket, for Unsafe Passing"
I say OK, he gives me the ticket.

    I ask:
ME: "With all due respect Officer, can you tell me what would have been a safe speed to pass?"
Officer: "uhhhhh no, it depends on traffic, time of day, weather"
----Think to myself: So given that on an empty road at 12PM with Sun I could pass at 100?-----
Me: "Ok, well can you tell me what would have been a better way to handle this situation? I was next to the vehicle at the time you came over the hill, if I had slammed on the brakes and swerved back over you would have pulled me over for reckless driving. I felt this was the most prudent and safe action I could have taken given the circumstances"
Officer: "uhhhh well it was a residential area...."
Officer: "Your record shows 2 prior violations...."
Me: "That is incorrect sir. I recieved one warning for lack of front plate last June when it was knocked off in an accident"
    Officer: "And a speeding ticket"
    Me: "Yes 2 years ago."

Blah blah blah he lets me leave. I notice at this point the 2nd cop has been standing to the back passenger side of my car in the dark the entire time....

Needless to say, I now need to pay a $72 ticket.

Question 1: The speeding ticket on my record was a TOWN speeding ticket BEFORE I was 18, shouldn't this be cleared since I turned 18?

Question 2: Should I fight this or pay it? Dont give me random bullshit "FUCK THE POLICE" answers... I will delete them.

FINAL NOTE: I WILL NOT TOLERATE ANY COP BASHING

Well, just pay the ticket, you have no way of figting it, so why waste your effort. indeed it still sucks, but you have nothing againest it. :(

You could talk to a lawyer and see if it is even worth your time. Other than that, since it's not that great of a fine I would at the least mitigate it(do you have that option in NH?) Best of luck Chris!

I'm just going to pay the fine....

I was really really pissed when this happened. However, after relaxing and re-thinking for a bit... it was my fault. Shit happens, I'll take the blame, despite feeling like I was caught in a catch 22.

I have some experience getting tickets in NH...
Plead No Lo Contendere. Basically its just paying the fine and going on with your life. NEVER plead guilty. Advice from a lawyer in Colebrook. Speeding tickets in general are 3 years on your record.
Just think, you could be in CT, the same ticket would have been at least 3x that.

Pretty much... a little past it... right at that opening on the right where the cops would hide.

I'll plead No Lo... and pay it... its really not that bad.
Whats the benefit of pleading No Lo compared to Guilty?

..why not try calling the cop @ the precinct and try see if he's reasonable? If he says its up to the judge ask for a court date and don't plead guilty...if he says he standing firm on his decision..pay the fine or chose if you wish to go to court. A lawyer will cost you a few hundred but if the hike in your premium and your other affairs will get affected; you need a lawyer. If not, just go like a dumb guy, wait for the guy to contradict himself then simpy eat a salad and go to bed..

Damn, that is a pain in the ass, but I think you're making the right decision by just paying it.

I kind of look at it in a different light, based on my kind of driving. I've had many tickets. I don't even know how many.....many. The way I view it for "me" : I pretty much speed every day, not all the time driving recklessly, but I do speed nearly every day I enter the freeway. Now this is SoCal and there are a lot of speeders, but I probably hit the 90-100 mph mark a couple (or more) times per week. I figure it like this, I probably commit 1,000+ moving violations for every 1 ticket. My last two tickets have been pretty lame like 60 in a 55 type of tickets. I just pay them and go ahead with my life.

Receiving lame tickets sucks. My wife got a 56 in a 55 several years ago. She tried to fight it (with 2 lawyers) and lost. Since then, I just don't spend any time thinking about them. I just pay them and forget about them.
Don't forget the good things Hitler did.

Your driving record follows you no matter what your age. It usually takes 7 years for them to go away.

How did he know how fast you were going? Is it a "estimated speed" If so fight it and you will get off! Estimated speed will not hold up in court, there is no solid proof!

No Lo is like pleading no contest. Guilty is "Yes I did it."
Here in New England your offenses stay on your record for 3 years.

He says he clocked me at 55 and the person I was passing at 33. I find that hard to swallow as I was RIGHT next to the guy. I dont think radar guns can split up 2 targets side by side, and I KNOW the cop didnt have enough time to move the gun to tag us both....

My dad doesnt know, yet. He's still in Tennesse on the way back from O'Fest. He'll be back late Monday night... I think I'll talk to him about it Tuesday on the ride back to school :?
