    This thread is hilarious.

"I'm just going to pay the fine.... "

So your going to pay the fine even though the cop was obviously confused and slow to answer. If you come prepared to court you can probably get this dropped. Sure it's only a $72 ticket, but a clean record and insurance save are so worth it.

    "it was my fault"

It was your fault for exceeding the speed limit  Jesus christ man, you did nothing wrong. A proven driver passing a slow car where there is no one else around at 5, 10, even 40 over the limit is not dangerous.

It's crap, plain and simple. I'm just as sick of reading nonsense about "taking responsibility for speeding tickets" as you guys are of my anti cop comments.

      We'll see...
I'll talk it over with my father tonight when he gets back and get his opinion. I dont have the time to fight the ticket if it requires me to go to court. School is a major priority right now as I'm not doing nearly as well as I demand of myself. Taking time to drive up and fight the ticket in court is not an option. If I can do something similar to Jordans, and write a written declaration I'll try that.

If I chose to fight it and lose, I simply lose correct? They can't jack up the fine because I decided to fight it?

It is illegal to pass going over the speed limit. So basically, to be legal, the guy sould have been going 10 so you could pass at 30. I don't know what fighting it would do.

I don't want to give you any bad advice...
I realize that I was an out of state driver but I never had any insurance reprecussions from my ticket in NH. It never turned up in any scan of my driving record. I had two insurance company changes within 6 months of the ticket.

Also, I know that Chris is a proven driver. I would hesitate to say that all of the members of this board are proven drivers. Seeing the number of drivers I do on any given day would scare the bejeezus out of you. Especially when they say, "I'm drivin' good."

After talking it over with my father, we've decided to fight the ticket.

My first ticket will be cleared in +/-6 months, then I'll have a clean record if I get this one erased. I look at it like this, if I fight and lose, its the same as rolling over and just paying it. If I fight and win, I'll be a step ahead. I truly do not believe this ticket was warranted as I was commited to pass when the officer crested the hill.

Hopefully the judge will see it the same way.

It would be sweet if you got a clean record, but just woundering, what do you have to fight agianest the ticket, and what is your plan to fight it?

I'll have to go to court. Me, Officer, and a judge. We both present our cases... judge decides. End of case.

I'll prepare some notes, explinations and facts.

Over the past 14 years of driving, and at least 15 speeding tickets, only two were ever recorded on my driving record (of course one was over $400 for doing 100+ on the freeway while being paced by a Trooper). Just appear in court. Half the time the cop won't show and the courts are required to drop the charge, and the other half, you can request reduced fines, which they typically grant. Unless something has changed in the court system in the past 8 years, I'd go to court just to see if the cop shows.
Driving is the only way to go faster....
