I remember building my first 24v swapped car at 17, thought it was the coolest shit in the world. Looking back, what a piece of poop. Learned from it and built something different. I don't need to go to a shop to see "how to build something" right if that's what you're saying, I have friends, meets, and forums to learn from. I'm not degrading shops in any way. You're biased cause you're at your own shop where you live off dudes who can't work on their car.
This has nothing to do with respect for my elders either. There are kids my age who bring their cars to shop for a turbo kit and then think they're the sickest shit. I think you're mistaking me and thinking I'm all "MAN FUCK SHOPS," when it's not like that at all..
I don't care if you bring your car to a shop or not, your attitude about the OP "not deserving to own an E30 if he couldn't work on it" is what I'm reacting to. That's bullshit and you know it. I appreciate your change of attitude in your last few posts but you really need to try harder to keep it in check in the first place. There's a place for all of us here, you who works on cars in your back yard, the OP who brings his car to a shop so it can be fixed properly the first time and me, with dealer-level diagnostics and tools and the ability to fix these things so that the people who can't, or don't want to do their own work can enjoy owning them as much as the people that do.

      See my point?

I'll see the above, and raise you an oil pan gasket, and a selector shaft seal. I haven't seen how the Ix is setup, but I imagine the transfer case will make it a pain to do in the car.

i know a lot of people like this, they CAN fix their own e30, can do whatever it needs, a lot are even techs at places, but they have the money to pay someone else to do it. their reason is so they can enjoy driving the car and not any of the headaches that come with it. time and money, whats more important to some isn't for others.

gotta drop the transfercase if you want to replace the oil pan gasket.

You don't need to remove it for anything, unless you want to replace the cam seal behind it. There is a special tool required to do that seal.

Beware if you do it, order both the actual seal and the o-ring. Good luck!

You should do that seal as long as you're in there.

If you still have the timing belt on the torx bolt should come out fairly easily, otherwise use it and some vice grips to hold it.

These answers should be in your Bentley manual....

But yes, pull the torx bolt and it goes anti-clockwise.

Why are you stripping the head if you have a whole new motor in running condition?
