Anyone else notice that the intake boot has been customized with silicone cocking for max performance?

I cannot believe this is a 50k engine bay that has been carefully garaged for years. For starters, the opaque coolant reserviour and brown intake manifold.

A bit off topic, but I was under the impression that all 325i's had the battery in the boot. Is it a vert thing or a US thing to have it up front?

We saw a similar E30 with appendages up here in Seattle a while back, I'll look for pictures. Anyway, they had grafted on Testarossa style fins on the doors, etc etc. It was way over the top, though the craftsmanship was excellent. Of course, the question was why????
