My vert has 233k on the auto trans. It hangs in first gear when cold, but otherwise it shifts pretty good, and it doesn't leak a drop.sigpic

Im asking owners to give me an idea of how long a zf auto lasts, just so I can actually have an educated opinion to give someone who posts in 'should I buy this" threads.
If realisticially the transmission can make it to 300k I could say sure. A camry auto, Id say go for it because I have seen MANY on the used market even up to 400k.
It is very rare for an automatic transmission of ANY make to get to 300k, but toyotas do(and now toyota makes transmissions for other makes like I beleive mercedes.)
For instance a dodge caravan transmission rarely makes it to 200k so Id never tell someone to buy one. An e30 with 200k miles in auto is probably a pretty bad buy... not something Id feel comfortable suggesting someone invest heavy in.

It worked fine in the less than a mile that a I drove the car before I pulled the drivetrain and took it to the dump.
Buy, you know, it's not like I can say that it was never worked on with any ertainty.
Im not saying thats not great but Im just trying to get the data from the standard e30 auto transmission. Most e30s are getting to 200k and are way past the point where its worth replacing an auto trans on them.

I dont know on that but its a one off.
I really doubt he has the m20 auto transmission which is not even made for an m30 and then on top of that in has gone 380k miles....
