                  I drove my old 'vert from Pittsburgh home (Waynesboro Va) after the PO told me he had no idea when the belt was done.

                  Then a couple weeks later drove the car to Bimmerfest in Md and back.

                  Then sold the car.

                  If it doesn't have a chain, I'm not game. M30FORLYFE!

                              You replace chains too..just not as often. You never hear a chain motor last as long as a belt motor...belt motors have less moving parts (that also need to be lubricated).
