    thats fine

in 2008, the epa changed all the old mpg figures for old cars.

the way they did it before it was too high, the way they do it now, its too low.

    Bother were wrong....

but cars 96 and newer should be reasonably correct.

I dont want to compare gas mileage of any car, because I can show you one figure that says 23 highway, and one that shows 29 highway.

so whoever believes either one is wrong.

I know theres people that get better than 28 with an m20, and Im positive theres people that get better than 30 with an m42 because theres forum threads here.

But I dont want to debate it or look it up until Im ready to show everyone the data in a way they can double check themselves.

its safe to say an m20 gets 20 28 mpg because I have a m20 and thats what mine gets. and I doubt mine is in the top 10% of tune but it could be.

people who look up fueleconomy.gov are looking at some propaganda the government put out in the cash for clunkers campaign. I think that was bush that was so long ago.

You want to know why they did that? Because theres no one to call them liars. Theres no new cars left to test. so tons more people sold the gov their cars for 500$

They just subtracted like 4 from all the old numbers.

Wow, you guys must have some miracle OBC shit going on there. My well sorted/low milage m42's have recorded no more than 27 mpg at 65 mph repeatedly between Roseburg and Portland, and since I don't have a MPG button I have to calculate it the old fashioned way.

You know what? I have AC delete. I should point that out with mpg. I think thats 1 mpg right there.

I strongly feel when I get new injectors im going to get over 30 mpg on my next trip to portland. I dont guarantee it though.

And btw, I drove 65 the whole way not 55. right up the 5 you live on.

I have a picture just like turbojakes. I mean I feel ya dude arguing with someone else about the gas mileage their car gets. Thats something you do when you sniff a lot of glue.

No kidding it wouldnt destroy an e30. It has a weaker engine and weighs barely less.... the two things are similar.

the 0-60 times, from mazda and bmw are listed in the first post 6.9 and 7.6

I'm definitely getting like 28. An nc definitely wouldn't destroy an e30, especially not a coupe.

I got that frequently. Until I started upgrading a bit more seriously...
Then it went down.... I'm lucky if I hit 26 now unless it's 90+ degrees outside.

absolutely I have 28 mpg recorded over 1000 miles. What a retarded thing to contradict. Drove up to portland, and back to arcata.

That is definitely no record lol although it is my personal record.

Lets see now I own my car, I pay for my gas. I bet I know my gas mileage more than you do. Would you like to bet anything on that iq master? Do you have a paypal account?

    car and driver.

    Best handling cars under 40k.

ya they are all part of the convertible sporty category in consumer reports. the 128 and the boxster and the miata. I think the volkswagon eos also. Very short category.

nonono I just wanted to compare those two models. See if anyone has something intelligent to add. I dont want to compare any other cars actually Im dealing with other peoples twisted logic lol. I took on one research problem only and wanted to share it with you all, the miata nc and the e30 325 are pretty damn similar, here are there stats. Thats enough I dont care about other comparisons for now.

There are definitely some figures or things to consider. Like say, the 325ic cost 40k in todays dollars. more than the 128 actually. Thats a good point.

So thats a good point when thinking about the miata which is part of a different budget when sold as new. Theres lots of differences between the two things. Thats whats so cool is that they end up with almost the same thing seperated by 23 years. I gave their weight gas mileage and straight line speed and dimensions to compare but I didnt really compare their price.

I think though that 23 years is a long time you would think modern cars would have overtaken it. I do expect cheap cars to go faster than expensive cars from 20 years ago. maybe not 10 years ago... comparing the price in relative dollars to the cars available in different eras is too complicated to accomplish anything imo. More detail than Im interested in.

Well the main difference between the nb and this new one is the size of the body. I mean obviously and the weight. But anyhow, thats too many different models to compare lol. I believe theres a large difference in gas mileage that I dont understand as well.

Why compare the two miatas though? go ask miata owners. I once drove a NA daily its a cool car... but thats too many cars to compare at once. You want to find two that are closer I can too. But while were here on the e30 forum, lets only compare the e30 to another car ok? Makes sense right?
I can say, the earlier miatas are cooler because they are smaller, the newest one is almost an e30 in size.....
.i havent driven one though Im just using the statistics available to imagine it.

Theres a hundred other cars to compare if you want. If you want to compare cars in the same era go ahead. as a matter of fact Ill chime in if you want to compare e30s and miata NAs because I drove them a lot. Thats actually way more relavent a discussion because we both have/may own both those models as they are cheap. Go right ahead and compare the two with some good statistics in some other thread.
    Somewhere else...

Some people are just not up to intelligent discussion. They make attempts and can only get close to flaming. Not the last person the one I bothered to flame back.
Establish facts, discuss based on what is established as a fact. You can spot college grads even in a simple subject like cars, people who havent had an intelligent conversation in their life just immediately get angry about it.
So your trying to bring in education/intelligence to this? Generally speaking people who just get angry as opposed to discussing with facts comes down to a matter of maturity, not education. And if your trying to imply you are of higher education, your English sucks.

I seriously hope you are kidding on this. Find me a good car mag that actually did this comparo. And Consumer Reports, listed them in their convertible section together? OMG you can fold the top down on both of these cars, of course I would cross shop these two!

    and thats my point.

A brand new miata is better in some ways, its worse in other ways.

But it sure is a lot more expensive either way. Id want it to BLOW IT AWAY. for 23k poorly attired even.
How about you compare the E30 to the NA Miata? They are both actually from the same era, and there isn't such a price difference. And since you keep bringing up how much the Miata has grown in the last 20 years, look at where the 3 series has gone itself:
    (Specs for convertible)
    Weight: 2850>3946lbs
    Length:170.2>180.6in
    Width:64.8>70.2in
    Height:53.9>54.5in

What if you could magically change the body of the e30 so that it weighed the same, yet it looked like a longer miata.

And you took it to mazda dealers selling it as the MIATA PLUS!

15 inches longer, with back seats( somehow its MAGICALLY only 15 inches longer yet it has usable back seats)

10 more hp, and 30 more lb ft of torque! Yet the gas mileage is similar!!!!! and it only weighs 350 more lbs!!!!!

Would it sell? maybe not outsell, but I think it would sell. Theres enough people that back seats are everything. Id sell it for.... 25k starting. somewhere between the miata and the 128. booya.
The truth is, an e30 would not take the world by storm but it might very well sell today as new.
So there's a couple serious flaws to your 'magical' plan. First off, you would want to sell it for about 25k huh? You do realize that E30 'verts sold for more than that 25 years ago, not even accounting for inflation? Not to mention to even attempt to sell a modern E30 you would have to add so much safety equipment the car would easily gain a couple hundred pounds, and most likely need to be made larger to accomodate that.

the miata called the nb was way better using an older tech non vvti engine, and a much smaller body. This body is huge. In fact pull out the stats of a boxster and its thinner. This new miata is very wide. Its wider than what used to be a full size sedan width.
Ok so I can kinda understand comparing the tech between the 2 cars. For what it was, the E30 still has a lot of modern tech features people never would have thought were available in the late 80's.

But, first off you say the NB was way better using the non vvti engine. How??? The new engine gained 30 hp while only going up .2L in displacement. The NC had to grow to make room for the ever increasing safety mandates by the government, that's why it is bigger. Also to accommodate larger drivers, I have heard of plenty of people who would like to drive/own a Miata, but they simply couldn't fit.

But what I do find funny is this, you seem to be incredibly hung up on width, but want to ignore other things like price. Now seriously, how often is width something people are seriously concerned about when choosing a car like his? About the only legitimate reason i could see someone concerned with this is for an autoX car, where an extra inch in width does mean quite a bit when dodging cones.
