I hope the OP isn't serious? BMW is the worst as far as recalls/customer service goes. They need to take lessons.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

Exactly.....e9x Fuel Pump problems, E46/e36 subframe problems, ect.... And on top of that horrid dealership network that simply says BMWNA isn't responsible and deal it.1985 BMW 325e

Oh really? Go take a gander at the article I posted;
"Since the advent of electronic throttle control, many automakers have added software to program the throttle to close—and therefore cut power—when the brakes are applied. Cars from BMW, Chrysler, Nissan/Infiniti, Porsche, and Volkswagen/Audi have this feature..."

simply read this article and posted about it....Im unfamiliar with the subframe issues youre speaking of or the e90 fuel issues...
if you have an e90 with fuel issues...that should still be under or near warranty right? so no recall....just fix it under warranty, unless of course we are talking about something else.
I just think how a simple wire/battery that shorts out the electrical system, or has the potential for fire is enough to call a recall. Although, a speeding toyota, with a dumb motorist behind the wheel, is left out in the open....
Some people don't have the knowledge or logical reasoning to understand how brakes work....Plus how is one going to prove their engine blew out because of it not stopping so they dropped it into neutral? I doubt any service manager is going to believe that lol, even with back ground issues with the current models
not saying BMW has great recall/warranty follow up...but it does show they do care-at least a little.....Every Manufacturer is going to have issues somewhere along the road.....I fix computers, EVERY manu. has issues...just a small handful are much more reliable and have better support. You need to deal with the service side of things to know this.

BMW extended the warranty on certain parts known to fail on certain vehicles. Seat mats, injector/high pressure pumps, dmtl stuff, tail light grounds, the list goes on. They aren't that bad about this kind of stuff it seems. No one wants to pay for it, Farbin explained it very simply. It's just business. I pretty much hate doing any of the recalls. Very few of them pay enough to be worth doing.

i have had a handful of people that says BMW has the best customer service compared to all the other companies.
there is always good experiences and bad ones, and those are usually problems because of bad workers- not BMW's problems.-FREEDOM- is cruisin at 80, windows down and listening to the perfect song-thinking "this is it"

Whoever wrote that article misunderstands the system. Sounds like they are talking about the E-throttle integrating traction control/ABS system functions. I've driven all of the newer BMWs and Porsches, along with most new VW's (especially since the 'advent of electronic throttle' in the 90's...) and can tell you that as a habitual left foot braker (in autos) they do not cut the throttle when brakes are applied.Oh really? Think about it-- how would you heel/toe if that's how those systems were set up.. My point is-- drive a newer car with the throttle pegged and simultaneously depress the brake pedal, see what happens.Last edited by rThor432; 03-27-2012, 03:13 AM.Comment

Sorry, but that is by far and above the worst possible thing you could do in that scenario. Many, many people have been killed by doing this and it is they who are the idiots, not the other way around.
Anyway, in regards to the original topic - I'm fairly certain that one of the members of the car club here is one of the confirmed cases that have lead up to this particular recall. He has an E60 530i, that, in his words;

I meant it as a last ditch effort where it would be the only thing to do. If it won't go into neutral and your brakes aren't all that great. What else can you do, crash into a wall?
I really don't see how it's going to be that bad either way. Brakes aren't all that hard to use without vacuum.M20B23 Euro 323i - The Legend Of Ron BurgundrotComment

Soccer moms would disagree. Unless they're been working on their cardio with the Fed Ex guy while the hubby and kids are away, they'd probably find it quite difficult to press that pedal. Shit, I've heard people complaining their pedal are too hard after putting new pads/rotor on. I was like SRSLY? You're brake were just that bad.1974.5 Jensen Healey : 2003 330i/5Comment

^ My friend about killed himself driving my cj7. I forgot to tell him it did not have power brakes, he hit the brakes and panicked because he had never driven a car without power-brakes and thought they didnt work. Most people will have never actually stood on a brake before and have no clue how good modern brakes truely are, or hard you can or need to press them espc if the power is cut.Comment

That's the thing, it may be under warranty but BMW wants no part of it, saying it's driver's fault for using the wrong kinds of fuel etc. The e39's had and still have issues with faulty airbags that go off without warning and BMW states that it is not their problem.simply read this article and posted about it....Im unfamiliar with the subframe issues youre speaking of or the e90 fuel issues...

LA Times Article367,000 in the U.S.
[...]
The recall includes all BMW 5 Series Sedans and Sport Wagons produced between June 1, 2003, and March 31, 2010, and 6 Series Coupes and Convertibles produced between Sept. 1, 2003, and July 31, 2010.
The German automaker said the problem is with the bolt connecting the positive battery cables at the insulated bulkhead connector in the vehicle’s trunk.
“In rare cases, the insulated bulkhead connector may have been incorrectly attached to the trunk floor panel. Over time, this can lead to a loosening of the bolt connection causing various systems in the vehicle to malfunction,” BMW said.
The cable connection could overheat and cause a fire starting in the vehicle, even when it is not being driven, the company said.
BMW will mail letters to owners of the vehicles in April, asking them to take the cars to their dealer. A technician will inspect the connector. In addition, protective grease will be added to the area and the battery cable plastic cover will be replaced with a new version.Comment

9 cases ........ hahahahahahahahaahhahhahahaha
the battery cable that runs from the rear battery, through the trunk floor corrodes and then grounds out. seen it enough- no huge damage yet, but it sure is a huge job replacing that cable.
A 5er has burned down down the street from us though, he was on his way to us to have the burned smell checked out!!
BMW is not doing this out of generosity, as well as no car manufacturer would.Comment
