    Injector pintle caps

Soup guys. I changed the O-rings on two of my injectors but the pintle cap on one was broken and the other broke off upon removal. My idle is kinda rough now since changing the O-rings (there are no vaccum leaks from doing this, checked and re-checked) so I'm wondering if not having a pintle cap will actually affect my idle? Because as far as I know they're primarily there to hold the O-ring and spacer in. Just tossing ideas around as my M50's idling problems are awkward and random

The whole cap came off? Or just the weird plastic ribs? I broke all of the little ribs off of my m20 injectors with no ill effects. I'm pretty sure you need the cap for the spray pattern.

eventually due to engine vibrtion the oring can work itself off and down into the intake manifold.

I would get it fix asap. What's the worse that can happen? the injector working loose and shooting fuel all over the top of the engine, then fire.

Every time a pintle cap comes off for the orings to be replaced, the pintle should be replaced. So yeah I would say that not having a pintle cap COULD be a problem, but I'm not saying that it is for sure your problem.

Just making sure....the pintle caps didn't fall into the cylinder, did they?

The caps shouldn't be the problem. Are the injectors seated correctly?

caps and o-rings are dirt cheap. you might as well replace them all when you're in there.
