Does anyone else think this is ridiculously cool?

Found two old school BMW helmets on craigslist and had to get them. Build date is 3/82... I'll let the pictures do the rest of the talking!

Pretty neat! Don't expect any protection out of 'em though...

You don't think I could use these on an open track day? How would I go about finding out if it's approved for track use? They're extremely high quality and should still provide a good amount of protection unless helmets are really affected by aging I'm pretty clueless about this stuff.

SCCA and BMWCCA check the Snell rating. You can usually use a helmet that is from the last generation (5 years old or so) but nothing older.
They'll inspect you helmet before they let you out on the track.
          Still cool though.

            Too old.

Even if you don't have an accident, helmets should be replaced every 5 years. The material gets old and brittle, those helmets will offer very little protection in an wreck.

ahhh bummer i was really hoping to be able to rock this on the track. i'll try and get away with it and see what happens, although the thought of it not being very protective isn't very reassuring. oh well still makes a unique decoration!

If you do get away with it at the track, just remember one thing...

When you are in the hospital with brain damage, you will have no one else to blame but yourself.

You cannot put a price on your head.

Thanks for the words of wisdom I'm definitely going to refrain from using it at the track and just use it as swagged out decoration.
