Picked up a rental today, a 2012 Malibu. Funny thing, I miss my car. The Bu is so plastic, so disconnected, so boring... The B-M has so much more character

What parts were on the estimate and what was the repair total?

So the tow truck came and got her yesterday ( i was hit Friday) and took it to a local collision center. I went and signed a few papers and I called them at 5pm, half an hour before they close, to see if they had a chance to look at it. The guy said mew fender, bumper and trim... I was like OK, what about the steering? He asked "whats wrong with it"... Do you fucking people not even bother to check. Finally he said that the tie rod is messed up but needs to have another mechanic look at it and get with me tomorrow (this is still yesterday) Today has come and gone, with no call. I hate being left out of the loop on stuff...
I know the Lady's insurance accepted liability so I am cruising free in a rental but I'd still like a status update...

They took your car to a shop. Who picked the shop?
"needs to have another mechanic look at it"
Without any other information, I would guess the tow truck took your car to a shop that was chosen by the other insurance company. Also gives me the impression that they straighten and paint cars for that insuance company, but may not be versed in the mechanicals of the cars outside of what is in the Mitchell book.
I'd get the estimate, then take my car to a different shop...of my choosing.
The basics of this situation are: Your car was parked. She hit your car. Her insurance needs to make it right.
About the only thing they can do is push you on the "betterment" clause because you have such an "old car". Time is on your side. Everyday the insurance company has you in a rental (her insurance did provide that rental, yes?) it is costing them money. Most insurance companies want to have claims cleared and done in less than a month. The longer it stays open, the more visible it is and the managers want to get involved. You want to make sure the job is done right. I don't get warm, fuzzies from that quote from the first shop.

Take it too a different shop. An auto body shop should know to look at suspension as well when that area is hit, clearly ether you talked to an idiot or the shop is full of hacks.1985 325e M50TU(Sold)

I should have specified... They took it to a local shop called Autocrafters which my insurance recommended. Her insurance is paying for everything (rental, repairs, towing). I got a call yesterday with an update. Car's body panel has been fixed and was in paint as the guy was talking to me. They checked out the bad steering and said the tierod was bent. I asked how was the control arm etc and he said as far as they can tell good. Bodywork is pretty much all done now just waiting for the tie rods to arrive

Should have assessed the damages on the spot and then claimed you were a technician, then you should have had him write you the check for around 2k dollars. Sell the car and blow it all on coke and sluts.

OP I am sorry man. I have seen your Diving board E30 and its super clean sucks to see it get messed up. BUT maybe it will be even better after the repairs. I can't stand the dodge trucks man. No offense to any Dodge owners. Just the Dodge people around here drive me crazy cause they do stupid stuff like this.sigpic

Got my car back this morning. The repaired the bumper shroud, fender and attempted to fix the bumper trim. They also replaced the tie rods and aligned it. It drives straighter than it did before the accident and the fender looks really good. The black plastic trim around the DB they attempted to repair. It didn't look good and he said the part was N/a thus why they tried to paint it. You could still see the scratches and looks like they just painted over it, I said no, that's not gonna do so they are going to send me a check for $48 (the price of it new) so I can get one from a junkyard or whatever. Here are the pics
Sorry no before pics. It happened at night in a dark parking lot and was towed away before I could get pics. BUT to give you an idea, the fender had a grapefruit sized dent in it, the trim and bumper shroud were scratched and wheel was positioned like negative camberLast edited by bowtie2bimmer; 05-01-2012, 02:28 PM.
