    The E34 is no more.

My wifes e34 540I looks like its going to be totaled. My son was driving it home from work because I was putting a driveshaft in his e30 and he lost control and ran it off the road and hit a guide wire and wiped out the driverside. Thats 2 cars he totaled in 10 month. So my wife gets his e30 for now and he has to find his next car on his own and get his own insrance. Here is a pic of what it did look like. When I get a chance to take pic of the wreck before the insurance gets it.

That really stinks. I am sorry and relate. I have three teens, 16,18 & 19. In a three month span they got in three accidents and then I got in one. We went from having surplus vehicles (7) for five people to having three. No fun.

I wish more parents would make their kids learn responsibility like that. I'm glad your son wasn't hurt (was he?), but let's hope he learns from this. Two Foot drive for a while will definitely help in that regard.

I will concur. I'm glad my parents never bought a car or paid insurance for me. It's a good lesson in working hard for something you want, not taking things for granted, and taking care of things you own. Had my parents spoiled me with things like that, I wouldn't be where I am today.

I wish my dad would pay my insurance. But I'm 35 and haven't lived at home since I was 20, so . . . .

sorry to here that. Its a much better feeling to know you have payed for 100% of your car, and it helps you not crash it. I do wish my paretns would pay for my gas.

i'm very sorry that happened. If it was a six speed, then i'm even more sorry.

My parents paid for about 70% of my car as a combined graduation, birthday, and christmas gift, but I do all work, and pay all insurance myself. It definitely helps make me value my car.

That sucks man. Looks like it was a clean car.

While I didn't pay for my car, I do pay for all the repairs and modifications I put into it. Plus I pay for my insurrance and gas. I would rather do this then have someone else pay for it. It just feels better doing it on my own.

His frist car was an Altima white 186000 miles on it that we had for ever. I figured it would get wrecked anyway. He e30 we bought with a bad engine and he and I rebuilt it so he had some since of ownership in it. I needed a drive shaft for his so his mom ler him drive hers. It was very clean low mile 540 with an auto. She wont drive a stick. If it was mine it would be a stick. We were 2 weeks shy of haveing it one year. No body was hurt but I had a little talk with him to the fact that he had wrecked 2 cars in 10months and waked away with out a scratch and he may not be so lucky the next time. I was trying to help him out with expenses since he helps by taking his little bro places for us but after this I am done with helping. He will be going off to collage next fall and its 400 miles away and he wont have a car to take with him. On another note I did find a nice '98 528 today that I may buy my wife if the insurance settles soon.

To continue the saga, the ins. company is lowballing me on the car and offering about 1/2 what it worth. I have contested there offer and I will see what happens.

Assified... I came from nothing pretty much so although my mom helped me buy a car (i.e. secure a loan through her name only) when i got a car and started driving I payed my mom the monthly amount on a WEEKLY basis, plus insurance which in NJ was not cheap at all. Pretty much my entire weekly paycheck. I did wreck the car pulling a stupid move: taking a turn to fast, over correcting, over correcting in the opposite direction and crashed.

I learned my lesson and was accident free till about 2 years ago. I'm hoping my kids will get my current DD, the E46 325xi. By that time it will be about 22 years old, probably 350k miles. I don't even have kids yet though so we'll see.

I'm glad your son is alright though. 3rd strike he wont be so lucky... He definitely needs to be on his own for finding transportation now though.
