When did BMW start vin coding panels?

I have an early chassis eS and it doesn't have chassis vin stickers. Just curious I don't remember reading when this came about anywhere.

What is the build date on your car?
Mine is 7/1987 M3 and has all the VIN tags on the panels.

I believe my 86 eta has a build date in 1985 and has the vin on all the body panels. I will double check and update this post.

Check please because I know mine has never been painted but has no tags.

mine is an 86 and has vin tags on the rear fenders for sure.
