Steve brought out the best of all of us. A smile and outlook I will never forget. Awesome and true, a cool cat! This shirt is a great tribute to our man.

Oh this is just horrible! I so sad to hear this. Steve was a true class act! When I overnighted in Chatenooga we met for diner and BMW talk.

Thanks for all the kind words about my Dad. As you guys could probably guess, he was a absolutely a good one. We hung out all the time and he was always fun to be around. He's always loved cars, and when I was a kid he would tell me how awesome the '65 and '66 Shelby Cobras were, so I always dreamed of owning one. Dad went with me to Augusta, GA when I bought mine and he was so proud for me to have one. But to show you his love for BMW's, even after I went crazy with the engine (550hp at the flywheel and only 2300 lbs) he used to say if I ever came and ran in the mountains with you guys, I'd have to run in the rear to not slow everyone down. I never knew if he was kidding or not, and he never told me he was. He always stuck to that. :)

Here's some fun facts about Dad, some may be things you weren't aware of. I don't know...

1) He was the youngest of 16 children. BIG FAMILY!
2) His very first car was a BMW Isetta
3) His first job was working as a bicycle repair guy for the world famous folk artist, Howard Finster. We used to go visit him all the time and knew him very well. Of course, he wasn't quite as famous back then.
3) When he was a young kid, his hometown of Trion, GA had only two official soap box derby races. Dad easily won both of them. I have the newspaper clippings. He built the cars all by himself.
4) He was a professional musician for many years. During these years, he was actually a drummer, and not a guitar player, even though he could always play guitar as well as anyone out there. He also could play a fiddle.
5) He was a bit of a local celebrity and went under the name, "Mr. Anonymous" and any public appearances were with a paper bag over his head. He played live and recorded many songs for the local radio stations parodying current events. Yes. The songs were just as corny and funny as the ones I'm sure he sung for ya'll.

Those are just some quick little tidbits about Dad. He was quite a character. For what it's worth, it really comforts me to see you guys liked Dad as much as he liked you. He had VERY fond memories of hanging with you guys and talked about them all the time. I'm also glad I got to meet some of you when I came up with my little son to pick Dad and his car up from the Smokies after his "burnout". :)

Also a wild side note that Carroll Shelby passed last thursday also, can't imagine that conversation at the pearly gates!!!

O no I met him a few years back when I pretty much gave him an entire interior plus a bunch of other things for a convertible when I was moving. He was a very nice guy and saw him at a few V@V's. =/

Like losing a relative. I don't know what else to say past that. Steve was just an awesome person and considering I was just a 'BMW Friend' you couldn't ask for as much from a family member.

One story of his kindness. I had to take a trip for work(photography) for some volunteer work I do. I called him because I noticed I would be close to him and asked if he and Carol wanted to do dinner. Not only did we do dinner but he would not accept a repayment for the food.

He did this everytime he would visit in Knoxville. We'd all go out to eat Chinese Buffet somewhere and he would pick up the tab and refuse repayment. He also did this at the last Fall Brodeo on the Thursday we went into town.

Got me all teary eyed when I seen that there was a memorial dinner just for his "car folks" after the memorial today.

Vintage has been on my radar to attend and I'm saddened that I will not get a chance to meet Steve.

He also insisted that instead of driving home late at night I enjoy a relaxing stay, watch some college football and then head home the next day! That is how Steve would treat everyone.

I don't know how the Spring Rally will be without Steve being there. Heading up Tuesday to be with friends and family. Well worth the trip. I know Steve will be there in spirit to check out all the E30s.

Just got the phone call from my mom letting me know...Freakin sad day :(. As everyone here has stated Steve was an awesome person with a huge heart. My e30 caught on fire and i was out of a ride. He loaned me a car till i could find another, that was more then my dad did. Steve was always there to talk about anything. A sad sad day and he will be missed.
